“Very Good Hotel and Staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 June 2011

All I can say is that if I was to write a nice long review it would be exactly the same as the review posted by EdPam on the 23rd May except our dinner was served at 6.30pm, very happy with our stay.

Arrived with a coach party, keys were distributed on the coach so no delay regarding check in, a choice of times for dinner where offered, 7pm was agreed and tables were beautifully set in a separate room, choices for every course, and efficiently served, all food hot and very well presented. Rooms were exceptionally clean (plenty of pillows and towels), hair dryer and tea/coffe facilities. Breakfast served buffet style in the very pleasant restaurant, loads of choice both hot and cold items, All the staff we came in contact with were so helpful and very efficient. I would like to make a particular mention of the Manager who even offered us a quiz evening which was very much appreciated by our fellow travellers. The surrounds of the hotel are a business park so don't expect special views, but once inside it is very nice. I would recommend anyone to stay there and I hope we will return someday soon.

For:- Excellent value £39-00 bed & continental Breakfast. Double bed in a clean & comfortable room. Clean en-suite toilet & shower (both sink & shower had soap dispensers- a much better option than individual soaps and shampoos). Air conditioning , TV (not Sky), usual hot drink making equipment. Friendly, efficient staff with easy check in & out.
Against:- Average location on an industrial estate. Although not noisy or busy on a Saturday night, may be during the week. No views to speak of. Did not seem to be suffiicent seating in restaurant if all guests decided to eat at same time (Minor quibble as I didn't eat here) You could walk into town but it's a bit of a trek.
However, the pluses way outweigh the minuses and I would definitely stay again

Went to Doncaster for a weekend and found this hotel was more than adequate. The staff were helpful on arrival and I was pleasantly suprised to get our panini delivered inside 5 mins (after midnight) and the same with the iron and ironing board too. We got there from the train station for £5.10 in a taxi and back for £1.30 after we found the bus leaves from the nearby KFC. The Lakside shopping centre is about 200 m across a dual carriageway and has lots of shops there, also includes a Beefeater pub at the entrance, (we ate and drank a few beers there, usual Beefeater standard). Again, watch out for lots of football fans on Saturday, Doncaster Rovers stadium is close by (on earlier reviews which are correct). Did not make any use of the restaraunt, so no comment, but would certainly NOT recommend the Holiday Inn Express a mile away which was dreadful at breakfast. I suspect this hotel would largely appeal to passing buisness men/women, but we had no car and managed to get around on asking. Free wifi here and the room was spacious and clean, with a small flat screen TV. You also get a free paper, The Independant. I would certainly endorse a stay here, although I found the bed quite uncomfortable. Here is the number for the S Yorks travel 01709 51515, there were 3 buses an hour from outside KFC on Sat and 2 an hour on Sun. We paid £44 a night which I consider excellent value.

We were pleased with the location as we had travelled up for racing at Doncaster and it was easy to find from the racecourse. We also found it easy to get into the centre for an evening meal (see our review of Santini's = excellent). Room was fairly basic, clean and good linen, extra pillows without asking. We had room 10 which is at the very end on the ground floor. It was a Bank Holiday so luckily there was not much heavy traffic passing the room window which was right by the road. Staff were helpful, giving us directions to the restaurant and where to park in the town. Also there were problems on the M11 for our return journey the next day and the staff looked it up on the internet for us. For the price (£49) and including a good breakfast (buffet, cereals, fruit, rolls, croissants, egg, bacon, sausage etc) for 2 people it was fine. Not for a long stay though.

On check in at this hotel was not welcoming at all .we were told we were not booked in as the member of staff looked on the computer, just as well we had a print out with us from our online booking. Not impressed at all .Food was not of a great quality and when asked if we could have a cheese sandwich instead of cheese and onion we were told ,no they were frozen. How incredible that one cheese sandwich could not be made.Room was very impressive large room and very clean and cosy .
