Staff very welcoming made to feel at home. The local people in the pub were friendly.
We were shown our room which was in a separate building a few door down from the pub.
The room was very spacious.
Had an evening meal which was perfect, cooked well and veg very fresh.
Would go back if in the area again.

Room Tip: Go for the dearer rooms

Went here on a groupon deal , this was our second visit as we quite enjoyed the first time.
We were showed to a room just down the road not attached to the pub, lovely large room with large king size bed but absolutely freezing.
Went to bar to ask them to put heating on , lady behind the bar said she would have a word with the owner/manager who seemed to be having some sort of Geoff at the till. We said we would have a drink in the bar while we waited. After a long while we were advised that she had put the heating on boost and put a couple of fan heaters in the room but if we were not satisfied to come back and we could have a room in the pub but these were not as nice..
We went back down the road the heating still wasnt on but we had a couple of fan heaters placed on the bed. I wanted a shower but didnt want to take my clothes off as i was so cold. We went back to the bar and asked to be moved. We were taken to a small scruffy room with a moiuldy bathroom but by this time we decided to make the most of it and get out. The heating was nt on in this room either so we mentioned it to the waitress when we went for our mea.l We also asked for the bottle of wine in the deal and she said it would be taken up and the heating sorted for when we went up.
The meal was very good we really enjoyed this but of course by this time everything had lost its shine.
Epworth is a lovely little town with four lovely pubs including the Red Lion and we had nice wander round before going back for a night cap before bed.
Surprise surprise no heating in the room and no bottle of wine so off I toddles again back to the bar and asked politely for a heater and the promised wine.
Finally I got a heater that the button had to be wedged down to work but I managed it and left it on all night.
Breakfast next morning was ok but nothing to write home about,We wont be returning again .

arrived at Red Lion late on a Monday Night, friendly helpful staff, warm welcome and caring. Was shown to our room by a friendly staff member, room was comfy and quaint. We slept really well, even the OH who being tall wasnt sure he would sleep well in the bed. but we both slept soundly and woke to our alarm the next morning. We could hear outside noise but wasnt intrusive at all. the room temperature was cosy and comfortable for us. the staff in the morning were again friendly and kind and happy to chat, brilliant stay could not recommend this place enough. thank you

Room Tip: we stayed on a weeknight and the noise was not intrusive, this place is bigger then we thought it lo...

My girlfriend and I booked a 2-night stay at the Red Lion to spend some time together and get away from work. It was a lovely hotel and the initial service was excellent but the biggest let-down was the night.

We went out for dinner and were looking forward to a good night's sleep, but when we got to our room at 11:00pm there was a party going on at the club next door (which shared a courtyard/smoking area with the hotel; a courtyard which our room happened to overlook.) I have worked in the hotel industry before and assumed that there would be a 12am curfew as is customary with loud music in areas where people are sleeping.

At 1am the music was still playing with the courtyard doors wide open, we tried calling down to the hotel's reception but got no response. At 1:30am a member of hotel staff shut and 'locked' the courtyard doors, though they were emergency exit push-bar doors. This lead to people coming outside to smoke or, at one point during the night, have a loud argument under our window, and then banging on the door until someone let them back in again.

At 2am the DJ announced the final songs, although after protest from the crowd the music continued until almost 4am after which we finally got to sleep.

This was especially annoying as I had paid an extra £15 to stay on this night as it was a Saturday. We contacted the manager and then the owner of the hotel but were refused any kind of compensation or refund.

The only saving grace was that the second night's sleep was peaceful, else the overall rating would have been Terrible.

I must say though, the hotel staff (not including management) were incredibly kind and helpful in all respects.

Room Tip: If you have the money, the special themed rooms are fantastic. We peeked into an open one while we w...

We went here for an evening meal last Sunday (early December 2012). The pub was cosy, with nice decor that was enhanced by the Christmas decs. The staff were friendly and helpful.

We spent a nice, cosy couple of hours here, sat by a roaring log fire (was very cold outside!) and then having a meal.

Hubby had a curry and I had a lovely steak and ale pie. The menu isn't huge but I didn't really expect it to be in a small establishment. I did like the fact that you could choose to have a normal or a smaller portion size.

We enjoyed our meal and will go back again.

Went here for my nieces bithday family dinner the other night and the food was lovely and tasty.
We were a party of nine and had to wait about an hour for all our meals but a few people had come in before us and all the meals are prepared fresh so we couldnt complain.
The couple of staff that we spoke to were very plesant.
Would highly recommend the steak, chicken balti and chips (lovely golden chunky yummy)
