We were greeted in the pub by very friendly staff. It is a great pub, with a roaring fire and a traditional, homely feel. We upgraded to the cottage suite and was told it was an annex to the hotel. This wasn't a problem at all and the room was nice and clean. The double bed was two single beds put together and covered by a double sheet but this wasn't an issue. The bathroom was modern and had a very good shower with lots of features.
The only problem we had was nothing to do with the hotel.....take earplugs as the local church bell sounds every 15 mins!

Arrived at this homely pub for a one night stay and was greeted with a very welcome bottle of Cava on ice. We had upgraded our double room prior to arrival and found our suite to far exceed our expectations. The rooms were very well appointed with beautiful furniture. We had a king size bed with lots of pillows & cushions and the rooms were warm, quiet and very comfortable. We had an exceptional meal in the pub area next to a roaring log fire. Staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. We will definitely return and would recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing break.

Room Tip: Definitely worth upgrading

Emailed the red lion with regards to booking out numerous rooms for wedding guests. Never got a reply. Tried again; guess what...no reply! Decided to call them up only to be told I should book online by a very rude staff member. Went online and their link to book does not work. When I called back to explain the situation I was told that they had no idea what I could do, that they don't deal with hotel bookings, just work behind the bar. When I asked to speak to someone who does deal with booking rooms they replied "there isn't anyone here, maybe try tomorrow to speak to the hotel lady, I can't remember what she's called". Awful customer service from a terribly disorganised establishment. Just lost out on several hundred pounds worth of bookings!!

Staff very friendly on arrival. we were shown to our room which was a few doors down from the Pub, very spacious and clean the only gripe we had was a nail sticking up from the carpet.
we did the deal through Groupon so got our bottle of Cava on arrival :)
Breakfast in the morning was great, choice of cereals, juice, and jams then ordered your cooked breakfast.

We took trips to Grimsby Beach , Humberbridge, Doncaster, Belton House, Burghley House,Lincoln cathedral, and Brodsworth House as well as the local Epworth show so there are plenty of places to visit in the region.

I would recommend this B&B/Pub hotel and I am sure we will visit here again in the furture.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a cottage Suite as this is separate to the pub so much quieter.

Staff very welcoming made to feel at home. The local people in the pub were friendly.
We were shown our room which was in a separate building a few door down from the pub.
The room was very spacious.
Had an evening meal which was perfect, cooked well and veg very fresh.
Would go back if in the area again.

Room Tip: Go for the dearer rooms

Went here on a groupon deal , this was our second visit as we quite enjoyed the first time.
We were showed to a room just down the road not attached to the pub, lovely large room with large king size bed but absolutely freezing.
Went to bar to ask them to put heating on , lady behind the bar said she would have a word with the owner/manager who seemed to be having some sort of Geoff at the till. We said we would have a drink in the bar while we waited. After a long while we were advised that she had put the heating on boost and put a couple of fan heaters in the room but if we were not satisfied to come back and we could have a room in the pub but these were not as nice..
We went back down the road the heating still wasnt on but we had a couple of fan heaters placed on the bed. I wanted a shower but didnt want to take my clothes off as i was so cold. We went back to the bar and asked to be moved. We were taken to a small scruffy room with a moiuldy bathroom but by this time we decided to make the most of it and get out. The heating was nt on in this room either so we mentioned it to the waitress when we went for our mea.l We also asked for the bottle of wine in the deal and she said it would be taken up and the heating sorted for when we went up.
The meal was very good we really enjoyed this but of course by this time everything had lost its shine.
Epworth is a lovely little town with four lovely pubs including the Red Lion and we had nice wander round before going back for a night cap before bed.
Surprise surprise no heating in the room and no bottle of wine so off I toddles again back to the bar and asked politely for a heater and the promised wine.
Finally I got a heater that the button had to be wedged down to work but I managed it and left it on all night.
Breakfast next morning was ok but nothing to write home about,We wont be returning again .
