Reviewed 15 September 2013

I booked this hotel as others nearby were full as there was race meeting on.

The hotel is basic and in need of some TLC but the bed was very comfortable and linen and bathroom were spotless albeit the room was dark and depressing and very small. I often travel alone and would not recommend this to single female travellers as it is a motel so you have to go out of the main hotel building and across a car park to reach the bedrooms. My room was on the 1 st floor and at the back so it was not a pleasant experience going over to the restaurant after dark. Although the hotel advertised rooms from £39.50 I paid £60 which seemed expensive for the level of accommodation.

Room Tip: choose a different hotel

Rooms are basic but with all you need for an overnight or weekend stay.We were a party of 3 in 2 rooms, our room was on the ground floor at the back of the building our friend was at the front. we had no real issues but our friend was kept awake till about midnight by revellers next door who then went out and she was woken when they returned at about 5 in the morning. I guess this could happen anywhere and she was of the same opinion as ourselves overall. The bar/restuarant is basic but ok, we had the continental breakfast which was buffet all you can eat, cooked breakfast was available and the folks on the table next to us said it was fine. For £39 (£45 with the continental Breakfast) no arguments from us it is what it is a cheap basic and clean hotel for a short stay.

Myself and a group of friends stayed over night and found the hotel to be basic but clean and comfortable, the rooms are fairly dark and could do with a lick of paint and a new carpet to replace the current ones, would recommend for an overnight stay or for a couple of nights but wouldn't want to stay any longer than that. Must also add that £6 per head for a continental breakfast seems far to steep and we may have considered eating had it not been as expensive.

Room Tip: second floor, preferably facing the trees at the back rather than the rooms facing the reception

Staff are very friendly and helpful. I have stayed here 3 times now, twice in the same room and once in another room. The only thing wrong with the rooms are the spider webs - on all 3 occasions so a bit of dusting wouldn't go amiss. The food on offer is good and reasonably priced. The hotel is close to local amenities and a short trip from the town centre. A trip to the shops and the Saturday market well worth it.

I booked here as the Lakeside Travelodge & Premier Inns were charging silly prices for the date I wanted & I was bit put off by some of the other reviews, but I thought what the heck, surely it can't be that bad.

When I first saw the chalet block I didn't have high hopes of the rooms being very good, the wooden fascias & walkways need some attention. I found the reception through instinct & guess work & I was a little bemused to find that the hotel reception was also the bar & restaurant!

I was greeted by the receptionist/barman/waiter/concierge/night porter that looked like if he tried to smile his face would have cracked, check in was straight forward but it did take me three attempts to figure out how the retro mechanical key card worked, no fancy electronic key cards at this motel!

The room looked very tired indeed & was in major need of a revamp, there were marks on the walls & the carpet looked like it had been vacuumed very quickly & was grubby in places. There was a patch of furry mold on the ceiling & cobwebs under the bedside cabinet & in the corners of the room & the headboard wasn't fastened to the wall, it was just propped up!

The bath, sink & toilet were clean but the wall & floor tiles need replacing badly & the grout was black & I don't even want to know what the brown mark was on the wall.

The only good thing about the room was the nice clean bedding which is stored in a shed, there was only two pillows for two people & mr grumpy kindly informed me they had run out. And there is only one socket in the whole room which is hidden behind the curtain & you can guess what was plugged into it, the TV!

The only good things about the room was the clean bedding & a TV with all freeview channels.

Room Tip: Try another hotel, I stayed in room 11 which is in very poor condition

Travelling on business, I booked into this hotel at the last minute. As the title suggests, it was grim. The reception is the bar, the receptionist is the barman/security guard/chef all in one. The rooms are outside like a motel which I didn't realise is common for Campaniles, the one in Glasgow is nothing like this -I didn't feel safe at all. The room was dark and dingey and in need of a good clean. The bathroom was probably the nicest area! I definitely would not be using this hotel again and would warn others!

My husband and I booked into the Campanile for one night on the 17th August. Having paid £70.00 we were disappointed to find that the hotel is in need of a much overhaul, the room was dusty/dirty and there were cobwebs behind the curtains and down the sides of the wardrobe and the carpet was filthy and the room smelt of smoke and damp; the only saving grace was that the bed and the linen was clean. The amenities on site are very poor. The reception/bar/restaurant is all in the same room and you are confronted with the smell of old cooking oil as you enter. Truly not a memorable stay. I would personally stick to a Travel Lodge or Premier Inn as the prices are similar if not the same and you get better value for your money.

Room Tip: There is no "good room" need I say more !!!!!!!
