“Olde Worlde Charm”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 December 2012

The decor and ambience are great. We had a superb Motown evening. The food was bwautifully cooked, a lot of hotels can't manage mass catering, especially the vegatables. This meal was excellent, the veg was cooked exactly right not boiled to death. The staff especially Paul and Chris were friendly and gave great service.

We had lunch yesterday, 29 October 2012, at The Earl of Doncaster.
The renovation of the hotel is excellent, with it's Art Deco theme, which has been carried out to the highest standard.
Our lunch was good and well served.
We recommend the hotel to anyone visiting Doncaster.

We booked a table for 18 for a birthday party, unfortunately when we arrived we were shown to two tables of nine. We complained and were told that due to the need to accommodate another table (of 8) we could not have a large table. On complaining again, we eventually managed to get the tables moved and had a large table of 18.

The food was excellent and served quickly, plus considering the large order there were no mistakes. Also, the restaurant offered the steak night option despite it not being steak night.

Service wise, after the initial confusion, Owen Hardy provided an excellent service throughout. Owen was friendly and attentive, ensuring we had a great evening. We took our own cake which they kindly cut and served for us.

Overall, look forward to a return visit.

Had 'proper' afternoon tea here. Cake stand, nice china, delicious, high quality sandwiches, scones and cakes, plus we had the teapot refilled twice without having to ask. The main room where we dined is wonderfully decorated / refurbished and if you're an Art Deco fan, it's a real treat. Nice staff, altogether a very pleasant experience.

Really quick one - hotel doesn't look much on the outside but it's great.

Parking, staff, food and rooms are all top class.

lol - Now Tripadvisor wants me to fill this review up to make sure there are 200 characters... not sure why...

We stayed here with friends overnight after the St Ledger festival at the Racecourse. We arrived far to early to check in but the ladies on Reception were lovely and said that we could leave our bags and that they would make sure that they were in our room by the time we came back.

As we were so early, we had coffee in the bar, which is fabulously art deco. When we arrived it was fairly quiet - but after about 30 minutes it started to get fuller with Race Goers - a lovely atmosphere with everyone looking forward to their day.

Off we went to the races to return sometime after 6pm. We were quickly checked in and shown our rooms - all nice and clean and a good size - tea and coffee making facilities were a bonus but I would like to have seen a mini-bar! We stayed in the hotel bar throughout the night and the place was busy with lots of friendly people all enjoying the music and drinks.

After a comfortable nights sleep, we arrived at breakfast - we were a little late 9.30am as apparently it finishes at 9.45 - a bit early on a Saturday I thought! Our friends were already half way through their full english and we waited to give our order.....and waited and waited and waited until eventually a young lady came up and told us that she had told the order takers we were waiting and they would be with us in a couple of minutes......we waited and waited and waited and eventually caught the eye of another lady with a pad. We gave our order of tea and two full english breakfasts and then we waited and waited and waited- 55 minutes after we first sat down our breakfasts were produced - toast was on its way apparently but never showed up although another tea that wasnt ordered did!!! The breakfast itself was fab, all the works but oh my, I was so hungry by the time it arrived a scabby horse would have done.

I know that the hotel was busy because of the festival, but seriously, you know how many people are booked in - there is a fair chance that they will want breakfast - so staff accordingly!

Generally the hotel was fine, but breakfast really let it down and because of that I would probably stay there but have my morning meal at McDonalds!!
