We were booked for a party of 3 on a Friday evening and this was our first visit to AkDeniz. The restaurant has a lovely welcoming interior, a strong Mediterranean vibe to it, it definitely gave you that "on holiday" feeling especially with the delicious aromas stimulating your appetite.
2 members of our party opted for the set meal (3 courses), which is £20 per person (minimum of 2 people), the other member opted for mussels in a creamy tomato sauce to start and pirzola, which are lamb cutlets, for the main.
The set meal included mezze for starter which came with a multitude of colourful bowls of dips and sauces, and also a selection of chorizo, calamari, haloumi, salad and a chorizo and prawn dish cooked in a chilli sauce. There was plenty to go around and all the dishes gave you an amazing variety of flavour. The mussels were small but tasted wonderful, the sauce they came in was absolutely amazing, a basket of bread is provided to every table and we all really enjoyed sampling the dips and sauces, a perfect Mediterranean starter.
For the mains the set meal provided a fantastic mixed grill as well as other dishes such as paella, moussaka, stifadho (chunks of beef in a sauce)and a chicken dish that we missed the name of but was delicious, in fact it was all delicious. The meat was wonderfully seasoned and cooked perfect, the beef literally melted in our mouths. a 2 person set meal would have fed 3 of us but we also had the lamb cutlets which were as good as any of us had ever tasted. Perfect for ditching the cutlery and picking up by the bone to eat!
Needless to say our bellies were satisfyingly full at this point, however the set meal also comes with baklava and ice cream, which is a sweet pastry for those who have never tried it. This was in line with the rest of the meal, lip smackingly beautiful and could not be wasted, no matter how stuffed we were feeling! We also ordered a liquer coffee which was lovely too.
The service we received throughout the night was top rate, and you would expect a similar level of service to restaurants that are much more expensive. The staff were friendly and courteous and added to the wonderful dining experience.
This restaurant may not appeal to those who like quiet restaurants as the atmosphere is, although relaxed, vibrant and lively. After our main course there was a belly dancer who also got any willing diners up to dance, which for us, added to the holiday feel of the whole experience.
Overall the value for money, especially the set meal, is excellent. Quality food is worth paying for and for £80 for the final bill (including a bottle of wine) we feel we got a bargain for the excellent food.
If you like a fun vibrant atmosphere with your food, and want a real taste of the Med, we highly recommend this restaurant.
