Owner description: Nature paths suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs will wind you around a stunning, safe wetland habitat littered with pockets of woodland and wildflower meadows, and a cracking cafe is a great place for you recharge with friends. Hides allow you and your family to get up close and personal with birds such as woodpeckers and kingfishers and during your wander you may also encounter mammals such as roe deer and hedgehogs. The meadows during summer are full of butterflies on the wing in comparison to a snow laden winter where you may be lucky enough to spot our overwintering bitterns - this globally threatened species a real highlight to see for any wildlife watcher. Please note that we close over the Christmas period, check our website for details. We will be open every other day of the year (weather permitting) please see are website for further details. Unfortunately dogs, horses, bike, scooters etc are unfortunately not permitted on site.

The hubby and I popped to potteric Carr as we had an hour to kill and it was a lovely afternoon. We wished we could've stayed all day! I was thrilled to see a big grass snake down by the waters edge.
Cafe was expensive with no cakes on offer that looked edible really. But we didn't go for the food!
Great day out with more wildlife then you could imagine doncaster has to offer!

My wife and i found this place by accident while looking for a different place to walk the dogs, and we had a very nice surprise. Good walks, with good views, lots of wildlife spotting. Enjoyed it we shall return...

Yorkshire Wildlife now have a number of sites around the county, and this has to rate as one of the very best. Who would have believed that, sandwiched between a motorway to one side, busy roads to another and the main East Coast rail line, there would be this huge reserve, teeming with wild-life and plant species. You'll have to be fairly fit to make a tour of the whole place, but for those less able there are plenty of short walks to enjoy. It is beautifully maintained, the staff are all knowledgeable and keen to pass on information, and you leave knowing that your entrance cash (you can join Yorkshire Wildlife here, and the cost of that is a real bargain) is doing something toward preserving the region's natural habitats.
Some folk go back day after day - and you can see why. Cheerfully, indeed enthusiastically, recommended.

Stumbled across this place after looing for something to do with the kid. What a fantastic nature reserve. Plenty of hides to watch the birds in the reed beds, over 7 miles of pathways, and an amazing number of different butterflys, dragon flies etc. Would recommend to anyone

Fantastic day, saw all sorts, birds, butterlys, dragonflys, baby eels, geese, various small birds, found various willow hides, tunnels etc various ponds, lovely tea room in the centre where we stopped to have a drink, they did lovely food aswell at reasonable prices. Lots of hides all pushchair and wheelchair friendly. Lots of wood and stone art to look at along the routes. The four children in our party (ages 1,2,4,8) all had a fantastic day. Staff in main reception were very helpfull and pointed us in the right direction. Overall great day had and would definately return!
