“Family celebration ”
Reviewed 27 July 2014 via mobile

We had a lovely evening last night celebrating a birthday! We were greeted at the door and made to feel welcome! The service was excellent apart from one waitress who let the others down by ignoring someone at the table. The other two were very lovely, attentive and kind, especially to the children. Food was delicious, especially the lamb Henry, which we strongly recommend! The birthday girl was made to feel special and thoroughly loved her night. The play area is fab for kids! Thank you!

“superb Sunday lunch”
Reviewed 13 July 2014

My husband, a friend and I came for Sunday lunch today for the first time. The food was excellent particularly the vegetables. We live in Misterton and will definitely be returning. Many thanks and congratulations to all involved.

“Where we're the staff.. ?”
Reviewed 5 July 2014

On Thursday this week we called for lunch at 1.20pm after walking Clumber Park. We decided to get nearer home and support the local economy. We went through the bell on the stairs and waited at least 5 mins whilst we decided what we were having. No one came. We walked out and came home. Do you want customers or not. Will not be returning. In the past I have given a good review but this time I cannot has I had not bee able to experience this. Get your staff sorted.

Hi

I am so sorry to hear of your experience I definitely had Two staff on duty and one of those should have been on the bar at all times>

Sorry we weren't around to meet and greet you ourselves we are refitting our other pub and have been busy with the refurb>

I will investigate your complaint thoroughly and insure that the team member who has let us all down gets dragged over the coals and reintroduced to our met and greet policy.

Just so you know there is not a bell at the top of the stairs it is the Bluetooth contraption for the credit card machine

thanks for bringing this problem to my attention I will address the problem immediately

Best Regards

Dave

“Awful experience!”
Reviewed 28 June 2014 via mobile

Smelt like an old folks home, smell of the toilet coming out into the conservatory where we were eating, flies flying over our food, service slow and sloppy ( even though it was quiet) the food was yuck, the worst pub food I have ever had!!!! Do not mistake this place for the blackmiths arms at clayworth, that is beautiful!

If you wish to advertise your favourite restaurant please pay and put it in the paper and dont do it at my expense on this reveiw site;

1 we live in the country when the sun shines the windows are open and you get flies
2 our toilets are cleaned to a high standard and even after the busiest of nights dont smell ( actually toilets dont smell they stink) there is a lobby between the rest toilets and the conservatory
3 your description of the food i thought you had already mistaken your location i to have eaten at other places of the same name
4 staff were alittle stretched this week as i shut the other busy place in the area the ship at bawtry for a refurb
5 whilst most of my customers are in the 50 plus area i have no conpunction about stating the place doesnt smell like an old peoples home
6 making something modern doesnt make it good this is a seveenth century inn that serves fresh honest sometimes rustic food;
7 it is not unusual for people to mistake the two pubs however the other venue does better out of my reputation than i out of theirs in fact their reputation is damaging to my business perhaps one of us should change our name as i am still a proper pub and they are not perhaps it should be the other venue
8 I have no interest in your opinion or any interest in what other venues are doing I would dearly love to find a place good enough for me to want to eat out more in the area i am hoping your reveiw is removed for what it is as i have no wish to get involved in slagging matches or competition with other venues

I remain the blacksmiths main competitotor at The Ship at Bawtry

I always try to co exist with other business and find your blatant attemt to advertise another venue appauling

no apologies

“very impressed”
Reviewed 5 June 2014

I visited the blacksmiths as a large party of 16 and was thoroughly impressed. We were seated in the nice dining room after having a few drinks. The food came out in a good amount of time and was nicely presented. It was really tasty food and our steaks were all cooked perfectly. (We were also impressed with the mid week offer of 2 steaks and a bottle of wine for £30).
The service was efficient and overall we were all really impressed with this pub
