A slight detour off the A1(M) was well worth the effort.
Being able to sit on the decking overlooking the River Idle and an old bridge was a bonus for lunch as the weather before and after lunch was a tad wet!
A "light bite" haddock was ordered for one of our party and a "normal" sized haddock for another. I'd love the know the size of the large haddock as my light bite was more than adequate and the normal enough to share! One slight criticism would be that the chips could've done with a bit more cooking.
Liver and bacon (excellent) served in a giant Yorkshire Pud (bit stodgey) and a beef and onion baguette (bit dry) were had by others in our party. Had these aspects been better an "excellent" overall rating would have been given.
The regular beer, Batemans XB was superb and Thatchers excellent Gold cider also on tap. The "dangerous" Thatchers Katy being available in bottle. Unfortunately continuation of the road trip was required otherwise a longer stay would've been enjoyed.
The Haxey Gate is actually nearer Misterton in Nottinghamshire rather than Doncaster in South Yorkshire but has a Doncaster post code.
