“Wonderful hotel”
Reviewed 4 September 2011

We were completely happy with our stay here. We were in room 16 a small but very attractive room with a spacious stone bathroom. The hotel was full or I think we might have received an upgrade. The room is very attractively furnished with good lighting. The Frette linens were a treat as was the unusual bed with a plastic spring type mattress-very high tech! Coffee, tea and mineral water are complementary in the room. We had cable access for the computer but wifi only available in the public rooms. We had a spacious desk and a free standing full length mirror.

The bathroom was almost as large as the bedroom with stone and stainless steel, Grohe fixtures and separate large shower with rainhead and extra large soaking bathtub. Spa products for our use were very nice. There were glass fish and other decorations on the bathroom shelves and plenty of storage. Missing was an outlet for the hairdryer in the bathroom though there are many outlets in the bedroom.

The garden is lovely and extensive and we took advantage of the sunny weather to lounge outside. We did not use the spa but it looked beautiful.

We had an excellent dinner in Hicks and found the bar highly attractive in contrast with what some reviewers wrote here. The bar has modern decor with red and wood furnishings. There is a fabulous glass sculpture and oil painting and very comfortable sofas and chairs..

Service was friendly and accommodating. We had a long and pleasant chat with the general manager who was most gracious. We had no special requests during our stay

Breakfast was a la carte and included two courses, fresh orange juice and coffee. I don't understand the gripes about the English breakfast-portions were ample and the eggs were always perfectly cooked. We had excellent Scottish smoked salmon and delicious eggs Benedict.

The location is right on the main square. Our room was on the street so I imagine it could be noisy at the height of the season. Many of the room and all of the suites are on the garden and private.

There are plenty of good restaurant choices within walking distance and we found Chipping Campden to be a very convenient base for exploring the .Cotwsolds.

My partner and I couldn't have a proper holiday this year, so we decided to treat ourselves to a couple of nights of luxury instead. We paid £200 per night for two nights, which is far more than we would normally pay. The room was ok, but a bit warm, so we put the air con on for the first night. I've never been badly affected by air con before, but felt ill and dehydrated the next morning.

One of our main reasons for booking this hotel, was for the spa. We were bitterly disappointed to find out on our first night that it closed at 6pm, so we were too late to use it. From past experience, spas have always been open until 10pm. We used it the next day, and found it very nice. However, I do not feel that it's fair to expect guests to plan their day around the spa opening times. Surely, most people will want to explore the area at their leisure, rather than having to rush back by 5pm to get an hour of spa time in??!!

On the plus side, the staff were very nice. Our 'complementary' (yeh, like we haven't paid for it ten times over already!) cream tea was also very nice and much bigger than expected, and the breakfast was nicely done. It was also a refreshing change that breakfast is served up until 10.30 am and you don't have to check out until 11.30am, so you can take your time.

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this hotel, largely because of our disappointment over the spa, which was a big part of our going there. Whilst we were treated well by the staff, I wasn't really sure why the hotel cost so much.

Having enjoyed a great spa hotel in Bath with my husband earlier this year, I did a lot of research to find another good place to spend our wedding anniversary weekend. Use of the spa facilities were paramount with my husband only recently returning from a tour in Afghanistan.

I booked Cotswolds House and we were excited about the weekend, however, sadly it did not live up to our expectations.

On arrival we checked the spa opening times on a letter which was in our room on arrival. The letter said the spa was open until 7pm. We went to go at 6pm only to meet a member of staff on the way to tell us it was infact closed. Very disappointing.

To add to this, we found the room amenities to be fairly disappointing for the price of the room and the information in the room regarding the amenities was lacking and incorrect (wrong breakfast times).

Having complained post event the hotel manager offered us complimentary spa vouchers on our next visit and said these would be put in the post to us - they have never arrived.

All in all a very disappointing experience and consequently I would not recommend this hotel to any of our friends or family.

We recently went to a wedding and stayed at the cotswold house hotel. The hotel is a lovely building that has undergone a recent refurbishment that has been done to a very high standard indeed. The room was spacious and well appointed with state of the art DVD, TV and Music system, there was a well stocked mini bar, tea and coffee making facilities and everything else you could wish for

The staff were efficient and polite, the food was very good, a mistake was made on my order, but very quicky sorted out.

It is pricey, but i was happy to pay the bill at the end of the stay.

The only downside was when we got back from the wedding it took us an hour to raise the night porter to let us in, but all in all a nice stay with good food in an excellent envionment.

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon. On arrival we were advised our junior suite had been upgraded to a suite by the friendly receptionist which was a lovely surprise. My husband had arranged for a red rose and champagne which was waiting in the suite.

Our room was very nice (Grevel Suite, Room 19) - it had a living area between bedroom and bathroom. The L shaped sofa was not particularly comfortable though, we had chosen this hotel for relaxation after months of stressful wedding planning and house moving so really wanted to relax in front of a DVD/TV in between strolling around the village and enjoying some good food and wine. For the price (£315 per night), we were expecting satellite channels and a decent DVD library but the list of DVD's offered by reception was poor to say the least and Sky One, Sky Sport and Freeview were the only extra channels.

The free Mini bar was a nice touch, but it was the little things like the chocolate bar not being restocked, the biscuits were both ginger on the last day where as before it was a selection, only one bottle of beer. It may sound very picky, but when you pay this sort of money, you expect attention to the fine details.

My husband had arranged a surprise picnic hamper for us, there was a lot of food but no bread, just 6 oatcakes, to go with mounds of ham, salami, chorizo and cheeses. There were no serviettes or sugar to go with the flask of tea. Again, not major problems but lacking attention to the small things.

The food was very good in the restaurant, we had dinner in Hicks Restaurant the first night which was very tasty, if slightly small portions. Breakfast was nice with good selections, but again it was the attention to detail that let the hotel down. Having to ask for a extra milk for cereals when just enough for tea and coffee had been provided, one small mushroom, half a small tomato with the full English was a bit disappointing.

The hotel advertises free WiFi/Internet access in each room but we were told that it was only available in the bar and lounge - we wanted to see our wedding photos that were ready. When we tried to access the internet in the bar we couldn't, better luck in the lounge but very slow sevice.

The spa was lovely, excellent treatments. Very relaxing and clean if a little overpriced.

The 8 Bells Pub had BRILLIANT food, would definately recommend the steak and the local Curry House was very good too.

I would probably not return to Cotswold House Hotel because with the prices charged I would expect everything to be perfect, or almost anyway!

We stayed in one of the suites overlooking the courtyard. It was a lovely hotel and the perfect ending to our Cotswold road trip. We did not eat in the restaurant but explored the area and ended up at Michaels which is a Greek restaurant. It was not the sort if place to expect such a restaurant but we had a FAB meal. Will write s separate review for that but I think there are a couple of good restaurants in the area. I unfortunately did nOt get a chance to try the Spa but it looked new and worth a visit.

We stayed here for two nights with our two children and enjoyed the hotel and the Cotswolds very much. We had a spacious garden room which comfortably slept the four of us in air conditioned comfort. The bathroom was large and modern with TemplevSpa toiletries. The lounge in the garden was a beautiful place to unwind at the end of the day. The room was stocked with complimentary minibar items and tea and coffee. The included breakfast was delicious and very efficient. Wi-fi only works in the main building and the bar is a nice place to relax while checking email or planning your travels. I highly recommend the hotel for couples or families. The spa is very elegant and I wish we had more time there.

Room Tip: The garden rooms are quiet and private
