“Perfect January break”
Reviewed 16 February 2014

We paid for a winter break 2 night deal on 'Mrs&Mrs Smith' which was in itself a great deal so we were thrilled when we were given an automatic upgrade into a suite. There was no fuss made of this which made it feel extra special as we had no idea until we were shown into the room which had a lounge area with huge gas fire place, comfortable small sofa and large TV.

The bathroom was something else! The huge 2 person granite egg-shaped bath was the ultimate was to relax. Each room had it's own light control system and for the bathroom this included a 'mood' light setting which featured a very contemporary light fixture over the bath (which was a piece of artwork in itself) and directly over the rain shower (which also had a separate detachable shower head) there were lights which changed colour.

The bedroom was nice with a lovely huge, comfortable bed. there wasn't much room to move around from the far side of it though so if you get up lots in the night it night not be ideal.

The room also had doors out into it's own walled, private courtyard with a table and chair which would have been lovely when the weather was warmer.

The tea and coffee facilities were excellent and there was a mini fridge which contained proper milk and bottles of still and sparking water. There were also homemade biscuits for us when we arrived. As part of our Mr&Mrs Smith booking deal we had a bottle of champagne waiting for us and we were impressed to discover from the wine menu that this was worth £50 (cynically we had assumed it would be a cheap and cheerful bottle).

We used the spa facilities both days and spent over 3 hours by the pool on the second day as the weather wasn't so good, and we were the only ones there the whole time (admittedly it was probably due to it being mid-week in January). It was a very relaxing space but not pretentious in any way. the hydro-pool was lovely as you could lie on one of the 'jacuzzi' beds and then slip straight back into the pool. The steam room was great too and we didn't have any massages as we were quite content.

We ate in The Grill and the fillet steak was phenomenal - probably the best I've ever had and worth ever penny. All of the dishes were beautifully presented and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

The breakfast was very tasty too and there was plenty of choice from a continental selection of pastries, cereal and fruit as well as a full hot breakfast menu, including Eggs Benedict which is my personal favourite and set up in perfectly for a day out and about.

Our room was at the front of the hotel so we could access it via a separate entrance which was really lovely. Despite being next to the road (which isn't a busy one anyway) we didn't hear a thing as the bedroom is at the rear and only the lounge area is at the front which made it feel more private and cosy.

Please note, this is not a room to stay in if your a new couple or a private person as there is no door to the bathroom from the bedroom (just a curtain across the doorway).

We had a wonderful few days at the Cotswold House Hotel and were instantly drawn to it's relaxed, informal demeanor that didn't lack the elegance and charm you would expect to find in such a hotel in the Cotswolds.

Fantastic service from check-in to check out at this lovely hotel in the Cotswolds. Nothing too much trouble. Fantastic rooms - designed for ultimate relaxation and pampering. Food in the hotel restaurant is well presented and delicious, again with excellent and attentive service. The spa treatments are wonderfully relaxing (Shea butter massage well worth trying) and spa staff were all friendly and helpful. Excellent hotel for a romantic and relaxing break.

Room Tip: The junior suite on the ground floor has a spectacular bathroom with steam shower, huge egg shaped b...

My friend and I stayed at this lovely hotel last weekend. Everything from the initial reservation, the friendly staff, room, restaurants and spa were brilliant. We booked on a hotel "special" for £295 including twin room, evening meal, lunch and a spa treatment. Whilst not a budget break, I felt it was well worth the money and would definately stay again. There was very good communication prior to arrival and I felt confident that everything was booked properly. The room was on floor 2 at the top of a grand spiral staircase. I liked the old style furniture as it suited the room which was very spacious given it was a standard room. It was nice to have fresh milk and cookies in the room. The meal in the evening was of a very good standard and presented beautifully. Wine was topped up when required and the break between courses was judged very well. I was just the right amount of "full" after it. The manager took time to chat with us during and after the meal and made us feel very welcome. Following a nice breakfast, we used the spa at the end of the garden (I'm sure this is also lovely in the summer months) which we enjoyed - we even had another little doze we were so relaxed! The treatments were both great - very professionally done and good results. We finished off our trip with lunch and once again, this was well presented as well as tasting delicious. We did manage to explore Chipping Campden between all this R&R and found it to be charming.

Absolutely fantastic! Went for my birthday as a surprise, staff lovely willing to accommodate where possible. Full body massage was very relaxing felt great afterwards! Pool and steam room small but calming, easy to get a lounger as was not to busy! Food was lovely and not too badly priced for the type of meals they offer. Overall had a lovely day, would definitely go again.

Dear Debii-lou,

Brilliant! The spa team really appreciate your positive and kind words. We are all very pleased that you had such a great experience from start to finish. The spa is very relaxing, especially following a full body massage which allows you to blissfully melt you into the poolside loungers afterwards.

All in all we are delighted to know we gave you the perfect Birthday present and many happy returns!!

The hotel has a lovely spiral staircase. We had a great room with a huge extremley comfortable bed.All linen and towels were brilliant white, only tiny niggle although also white the robes were old and frayed. The service was excellant and breakfast very good.As for the spa it has a tiny pool with 10 beds and four chairs(we found that after cheak in people were hovering around looking for a seat,a bit dissapointing if your intensions were to come and relax.) there is also a steam room big enough for four people and thats it, unless you go for any treatments which are expensive.I would definatley go back to the hotel but not as a spa break

Dear JackJones8,

We appreciate your review and are thoroughly pleased you enjoyed your stay and the hotel.

The Spa, being of an award winning design and with a good reputation means that it is very popular with hotel guests and non residents alike. It is a shame therefore that you did not get the best experience from our spa.

Our treatments and products are exclusive with only 5 spas in the UK featuring the the house of La Sultane de Saba, one of the world premier spa ranges. Prices however do not reflect this exclusivity and are kept competitive in line with other local spas with more mainstream products. Therefore I assure you our prices genuinely do reflect value for money.

I do hope you will have another opportunity to join us in the future so you have the chance to experience the multi-award winning spa in its usual truly relaxing state.

Best wishes,

Michael and Team

We stayed here for 2 nights in August 2013. Although our room was one of the smaller in the main building it was very comfy and cosy and the bathroom was almost as big as the bedroom! We had booked a special offer package which was incredibly good value for money, including afternoon tea, dinner on first evening, breakfast, plus one mini spa treatment. The food was good. The staff very pleasant and helpful. The spa facilities were very good too - I had a wonderful massage from a very experienced therapist. The spa is located in a separate building a short walk through the garden from them hotel. The hotel offers some unusual cottage rooms with patios and hot tubs too but these are more pricey. The location is fab - Chipping Camden is a lovely little town. We had a tipple in several of the local pubs which were all very nice. There is an amazing shop selling all sorts of vintage ceramics just across the road from the hotel. Its an excellent location from which to explore the Cotswolds. Would highly recommend.

Room Tip: The garden cottages look very nice if you can afford them!
