“Uncomfortable”
Reviewed 22 April 2011

We chose the Kings due to its connection to Mallory Court - big mistake.
Kings Hotel is not for relaxing so don't go if you are looking for peace & quiet.
Breakfast, which really should be a peaceful time was wrecked by a cacophony of mobile phone conversations, computer activity, texting & tweeting - we seemed each morning to be surrounded by them and then they moved to the bar/lounge for the rest of the day. There are no quiet lounge seating areas in this hotel so if you want a little peace it’s back to your room (& that was not brilliant either!)
Food overpriced & very average - we have been back to Chipping Campden since 'the Kings experience' but not to the Kings nor ever again

My husband and I got married here on Feb 23rd 2011 and I have to say our stay was absolutely perfect.
We had a small wedding (10 of us in all) and hired The Garden Room which was a beautiful setting. The service was incredible, the food was brilliant and the whole atmosphere of the hotel was perfect for a wedding. Nothing was too much trouble for staff who attended to our every need (including my many wedding favours, that I insisted had to be placed just so!) and I can honestly say, I could not fault them. Inparticular a lovely lady called Charlotte ensured that our stay was the best it could be. She even made sure the heating in the ceremony room was turned up high at my request as my dress was originally bought for the bahamas(!) and it also made my female guests in their little dresses, feel comfortable right through to the evening.
I hired all 5 rooms in the cottage at the back and one in the main hotel, they were all immaculately cleaned and presented. Plenty of tea, coffee, biscuits, botted still and sparkling water and apples were supplied each morning.
The following morning after the wedding, the staff had prepared a table for the 10 of us without us even remembering to request it. The food again was very tasty, we all had a full english breakfast and helped ourselves to the cereals, fruit, pasteries and fresh juice drinks at the buffet.
The cake was cut for our departing guests and wrapped up individually for us by the time we were ready to leave. The bill was much lower than we thought it was going to be as we ordered a lot of extra drinks at the bar and bottles of wine were being poured all evening during our wedding meal. Extremely reasonably priced.
I really would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone having a small wedding, or to any couples looking to get away. I do not normally write reviews (this is my first), since although I have stayed in many hotels I have never come across one that I was so impressed by that I thought it worth writing a review for.

My husband and I stayed here for our friend's wedding just after Christmas. It is located in the small village of Chipping Camden and was perfect for the very intimate and beautiful wedding that took place.

The hotel is traditional/modern and is very cosy, almost like a very large house. The bedrooms are comfy with original features and our room was right at the top of the stairs and over looked the main village street. It was roasting hot in there, being that there was snow outside, but the room had the traditional sash windows so we could let lots of air in! There are newly renovated cottages out the back in which the bridal suite is situated and these rooms are fantastic-old beams but contemporary furnishings and a big bath tub in the centre of the suite, plus a seperate bathroom with a fascinating Neptune statue at the end!

As a wedding location it was perfect for my friends. It doesn't have the huge grounds that some weddings require, but the interior has a boutique feel and this was just right for the intimate, relaxed and warm wedding that we enjoyed so much. The wedding took place in the main room that then became transformed into the wedding breakfast venue. It has great artwork on the wall and a huge traditional fire at one end that was surrounded by candles, so all very romantic. The other room hosts the bar and this is a nice area for drinks and socialising.

The food and service was fantastic, without doubt the finest wedding food we have experienced before. Apparently the restaurant is in the top 100 in the UK and that i can believe. Breakfast the next day was also very good, continental buffet and cooked option.

Obvioulsy we loved staying here as the wedding was so great but this is a lovely hotel situated in the Cotswolds and i'd return here for the food alone.

We chose The Kings because we were looking for a country house type hotel with fine dining. The food indeed was excellent, as was the service and the staff were very helpful and friendly, but we were disappointed by the hotel.

We were on a special deal and were upgraded to one of the cottage rooms. We arrived at 3.00, but the room was not yet ready. I suspect they put us into a different one to that which they intended as our key and all our details had a differently named room on it! The room we were given was SMALL, with not a chair in the place (there wasn't room). The adjoining bathroom was huge, almost the same size as the bedroom. The room was not suitable for more elderly guests. My husband had problems getting off the bed (it was so low); and getting into the bath (it was so high!).

We had envisaged sitting reading or playing scrabble in a comfy lounge with blazing log fire, but the only public room was a rather soulless bar. So we were reduced to spending most of our time in the hotel sitting on the bed! Rather sad.

We booked directly with the hotel for a "winter mini break" 2 night stay which cost £199 and included dinner one one night and breakfast on both mornings. On booking we were upgraded from a queen room to a cottage master which was a beautifully decorated room with a lovely en suite (we were staying Sunday and Monday night). On our first evening we ate in the restaurant which not only had a lovely atmosphere (open log fire and candlelit) but the food and wine were excellent and the staff lovely. The inclusive meal was great value as it included all 3 courses and coffee. The hotel also has a lovely candlelit bar next to it and my only suggestion for improvement is that we would have spent much more time here if it had its log burner lit (although with very few guests in the hotel this may have been the reason that it wasn't) Our breakfast was also very good. Overall the staff were friendly and helpful and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We had never stayed in Chipping Campden before and found it a picturesque village with a mix of little shops and a surprisingly good amount of pubs and places to eat. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel to others and hope to go back.

Stayed at the Kings on a Sunday/Monday nights. It was lovely. It is very rare that I would give anywhere 5 stars, but this place really warranted it. The bedroom was fantastic. Clean, comfortable and very tastefully furnished. On waking up, we found that the heating had not come on so the room was a little chilly. The staff told us they had adjusted it to make it more comfortable.

We dined in the bar both nights. We were the only ones in for much of the Sunday evening and the waiter was chatty and helpful. Full marks for service. The food was also lovely.

The location is superb. Right in the heart of the village.

I can't recommend the place highly enough - we will definately be returning!
