Turned up last night and there you were - gone ! Replaced by "The Chef's Dozen". What a surprise. Have you opened up elsewhere ? Do please post to let us know what you are doing now because we thought you were the best restaurant in Chipping Campden.

“Wonderful food - even better than before”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 June 2014

After just over a year's closure, during which it was much missed,The Chef's Dozen is back, now in a beautiful old Cotswold stone house in the centre of Chipping Campden. Very unfairly perhaps, I visited on its first ever lunchtime service in its new premises - and found it even better than I fondly remembered it. Richard Craven is a young chef with serious talent; and his wife Solanche runs front of house in a friendly, welcoming way.
There are three choices of menu: the blackboard one, either two or three courses at very much pub prices; a four course, and a seven course tasting menu. All the food is fresh, seasonal and incredibly local - mostly originating from within three or four miles.
I opted for the four course menu - and I have to say this was one of the loveliest meals I've eaten in a very long time. A wild rabbit ravioli was packed with deliciously moist meat and offal; and the rabbit consomme it was served in packed a really concentrated rabbity punch.
Veal sweetbreads were perfectly cooked - lightly crisp, with a delicate blush of pink inside; and the bone marrow sauce they were served on was rich, concentrated and the perfect complement.
The local hogget - reared three miles down the road - packed so much more flavour than mere lamb, and was cooked to perfection; the peas with it were so fresh they could have been grown just outside the kitchen (in fact they came from a mile away); and the sweetbreads and goat's cheese also in the garnish added extra taste explosions.
Finally, chocolate - and what chocolate! Dark, rich and luxurious, garnished with cherries and almonds, it came in every temperature and texture under the sun - the perfect end to a really wonderful meal.
A final word about the wine: if you go - and go you really should - trust Solanche's judgment. She really knows her stuff, and for a couple of the courses suggested a different choice which balanced even better with the food.
I had just over an hour's journey to get there, and didn't regret a minute of the travelling time. This really is a place worth making a special detour for - my only fear is that it may get so deservedly popular that I won't be able to get a table there as often as I'd like!

My wife and I had no where booked for our anniversary and they had no availability. They could not have done more to try and get us a table. The food, service and atmosphere was first class, a wonderful surprise to the night..

“Fantastic”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 May 2014 via mobile

This is a gem in the normally overpriced Cotswold town. A small restaurant but beautifully placed makes this a great location. Only a short menu but domething on it for everyone. My fellow diners shared some appetisers followed by thr duck which was beautifully pink, as ordered. I had the two specials, local asparagus, simply served with parmesan and lemon mayonnaise, followed by sea bass with risotto, beautifully cooked and full of flavour. Lemon posset for dessert, all washed down with a couple of bottles of reasonably priced wine. Good friendly service made this an enjoyable evening. Highly recommended.
