Description: Sweet Mandarin stands out on the Manchester restaurant scene for its vibrant, cosmopolitan atmosphere, modern Chinese menu and killer cocktails. Located in the chic Design House on Copperas Street, the award-winning restaurant is based on a simple philosophy: quick service, delicious pan Asian cooking and value for money. Whether you're in the mood for a memorable meal in the minimalist dining room, or after-work cocktails, celeb-spotting and Chinese tapas in the bar – this is the place for you. Working in a theatrical exhibition kitchen, the high-energy chefs use Mandarin style woks and traditional techniques to prepare classic dishes such as beef with sweet peppers and black bean sauce; Shanghai vegetables with garlic and chilli sauce; and General Tse's sweet and sour chicken

Assuming this is still owned/run by the people that won Ramseys F-word in 2009-2010,as it is advertised everywhere along with the fact they have a cook book for sale(Times best seller). They really need to stop living off the past, and start by learning about customer service.Food was ok,nothing to write home about.Think the price was quite expensive, and then we had a 10% service charge added? service what service? on paying they didn't even say thank you.Maybe they think cause they add the service charge, they don't have to bother giving any service? terrible.

“Wow, what's happened”
Reviewed 9 March 2014

We had a fantastic night on New Year's Eve , and once since, unfortunately that's not the case for our recent visit, the service was poor, the menu, well cut back would be an under statement, the food itself, the spring rolls could have been hotter, the rice the same, the main course was superb, just let down by everything else. It's a shame, because our previous two visits were so good, it was my go to restaurant in manchester when I didn't have a booking, now in will look elsewhere.

“Awful experience, never again”
Reviewed 2 March 2014

My wife and I went for a meal after work on Friday and were greeted with curt and blunt customer service. There were only two other people in the restaurant but when we asked to make our order the waitress snapped "wait a minute" and walked off. When our food arrived the quality was poor and the ingredients used cheap in relation to the price of the meal.

When we asked for the bill it felt like we were being rushed out and we noticed that they had automatically added a 10% tip onto the bill. In retrospect I wish I hadn't paid that especially considering the experience but we were a bit shellshocked at the time! As soon as we got up (and we still hadn't left the table), they were wiping down the table and getting us out of the way.

Awful service, poor food and over the top prices for what we received. Don't bother.

“Best Chinese in Manchester? Possibly....”
Reviewed 1 March 2014

My girlfriend and I enjoyed a wonderful meal here. Its very different to the flagship Chinese restaurants of Manchester, such as Wings & Yang Singh, much more informal and without any fuss.
We had prawn toast, salt & chilli ribs, and salt & chilli squid for starters, all excellent, particularly the squid, cooked to perfection, maybe some more chillies wouldn't go amiss, but I'm being really picky! We had firecracker king prawns and crispy Szechuan beef. Loved them both, but we were stuffed from the starters so took a doggy bag home.
Value for money is unbelievable, much better value compared to aforementioned restaurants, but if you want to dine in fancy restaurants with plush surroundings and leather bound menus, then this isn't for you. If you want fantastic, tasty food and aren't too fussed about the lack of plushness then this is definitely for you.
By the way, my girlfriend isn't a big fan of Chinese food, she prefers Thai and she took some convincing to come here and she loved it and remarked that Chinese would be her favourite food if it wall all of that quality!
