“An Elegant Place to Stay”
Reviewed 10 November 2013

My husband and I were able to stay at ABode for only one night, but wished we had the chance for more. The ambiance of the room was rather delightful with giant books spanning the wall above the headboard. An added touch was a DVD player in the room. Next time we will bring our favourite film, order room service, and enjoy a great rainy night in!

The location is almost directly between the train station and Piccadilly Garden. The Asian food area is in easy walking distance and, of course, there are many great coffee shops incredibly close.

The restaurant was also a joy. My husband had fish and chips. When it arrived it was a hearty portion that was lovely. I was also quite thrilled with the pumpkin ravioli. Highly recommended.

We arrived at the Manchester Abode having been to the Rugby World cup in Huddersfield on a very wet and windy November night. We were going on to the UCI track cycling world cup at the velodrome the day after so the location of the hotel near PIcadilly train station made it the perfect place to spend the night. We were given a warm welcome at the reception and having booked under the 'winter warmer' we paid only £129 for diner bed and breakfast in one of the 'desirable' rooms. Lord knows why anyone would pay the standard room rate because this makes it far cheaper than the Premier inn for the half board option. Dinner was in the cafe bar and the food was amazing. We enjoyed some good wine and a couple of the RUm Zombies which I would highly recommend. The room was well equipped and had a fantastically comfortable bed with little or no noise from the bustling city outside. The architecture of the building is fantastic, but the extensive use of wooden floors and the need for so many fire doors means you get a little internal noise but this never affected our sleep. Given dinner was a delicate affair with quality food over quantity being the key, we had high hopes for breakfast and weren't disappointed. Eggs Benedict off the menu along with fruit, pastries, toast and cereal set us up for the day. All very good quality and better than most unimaginitive drab buffets you get elsewhere. All in a quality stay, with fabulous food and the best location. Reception and restaurant staff are a credit to the company that knows how important customer care is.....BUT please don't charge 12% on the food bill because that totally puts me off tipping at all - it really isn't the done thing in this country - so no tip this time even though I actually wanted to. It's a matter of principle - I choose to tip you don't imply I should and it's your hard working staff who lose out.

Room Tip: Go for the upgarde to Desirable at least.

Great location for central Manchester & access to Velodrome (main reason for being there). Superb staff and sympathetic use of the Listed building as a hotel; room was fantastic, spacious and well finished (upgraded for £20). Only sampled room service food, an;t really comment on food - butfrom what we saw the Cafe/Bar food looked fantastic and reasonably priced..

Room Tip: Ask for weekend upgrades; avoid street-facing rooms for fear of Manc-beerheads at one in the morning...

We booked the Indulgence package and were not disappointed. The flower arrangement I was given as part of this was absolutely gorgeous and packed to take away easily .The hotel is very central and the rooms are huge. The impression of a reclaimed factory building is strong, there are lots of high ceilings and large steel pillars. The massive bed though low was very comfortable. A good-sized bathroom but a bath not quite big enough for two ( Malmaison would win on that ). Very nice toiletries esp the grapefruit shower gel.
Although quiet at night , you do hear people getting up and about early and the wooden floors echo a bit. No minibar but a tuck box of snacks and soft drinks, prices not too unreasoanble.
Breakfast was fine, cooked to order. Not a lot of choice but good fresh pastries.
Overall a very good stay.

Always like this hotel, but my husband booked it last minute for our wedding anniversary, a bit expensive but when we arrived there was a new girl just started behind reception, the girl who was training her was wonderfully patient with her and very good at her job. I think because we were patient and told them not to worry the girl upgraded our room to a suite....it was just perfect. Would recommend this hotel to anyone, not just for our upgrade. Its in a good position, the food is excellent and staff friendly and helpfull. All in all totally worth it!!!!

Room Tip: The best room in the hotel is obviously the Johnny Cash Suite.....its simply fabulous!!
