My husband and I satyed at the Abode when going to see 30 Years of Simple Minds at the MEN.

From start to finish the experience was fabulous. We were warmly and efficiently greeted, coffee in the MC Bar Cafe was good, served witha smile and reasonably priced, the room was comfortable and toasty warm - we hate being cold in hotels - and the residents bar was to die for, with well mixed cocktails and a knowledgeably stocked bar range . Our only regret was that we didn't eat in the restaurant that evening as we had a concert to go to. The meal deal for residents certainly looked appetising and again of good value. The quality of the English breakfast ingredients the next morning , especially the sausages and bacon , were good.

All staff we encountered were helpful, polite, friendly and very efficient. THANK YOU.

We wanted a hotel close to Piccadilly station, and as the Abode is only a 5 minute walk away, it fitted this requirement perfectly. We paid £140 a night B&B, which compared to other city breaks we have had recently, is not especially good value. The building itself is a historic gem, well restored and the main staircase up to the other floors reflects the Victorians' passion for ceramic tiles.

Our room was OK, but lacked "boutique" refinement - the towels were really rough, the wall plug for the kettle meant that you had to move the kettle to be able to switch it on, the bed design had very, very sharp corners and we both have several bruises on our shins, and to run a bath, you actually had to stand it in, switch on the taps, and then get out - the glass shower screen did not move out of the way. Service at the front desk was average - we questioned both on arrival and departure how the recent VAT change would be reflected and the replies we received were quite vague. Surely the front desk team should be able to clearly explain to guests what action management had taken on this issue? We felt that the service in the restaurant was geared towards large Christmas party groups, and not hotel guests. On the second night, the waitress actually apologised that she had neglected us.

There's plenty of choice for accommodation in Manchester, all within walking distance of the shops and the station. This hotel has promise, but to guarantee guests returning for further stays, needs to sharpen up its service and "in the shoes of the guest" check certain aspects of the bedrooms.

We stayed a sunday night on the hotel's Sunday Best Promotion (it's not on now but they do have other deals...) and got lunch, bed and breakfast for a very reasonable £89.
The two course lunch with a bottle of vino came to £25 for the two of us. We had a couple of beers too, the thirty pound allowance was then knocked off the bill; result!
The cafe bar was pretty quiet but we had to prompt the bar staff for a drink after quite a long wait (they were out of peroni on draft or in bottle). However the lunch was brilliant. I can't fault any of the staff in this hotel. They were all exceptional; friendly and eager to help. The kitchen produced some lovely food, we were very impressed.
Our bedroom was "comfortable", on the second floor and overlooking the main road up to Piccadilly. I would definitely recommend asking for a room at the back of the hotel; we were woken early by traffic noise. The rooms are q noisy as well, with the doors banging and echoing down the corridors. The room was pretty basic really with open shelves and quite an institutional feel. The high ceilings and parquet floors seemed more like a hostel than a four star hotel. The bed was really comfortable though and the room was very warm.
Breakfast was very good. The usual cold buffet stuff and cereals plus the choice of a trad. full english, corned beef hash (!), eggs benedict, scrambled eggs with salmon etc etc. Again the service was very pleasant and relaxed.
The receptionist showed us down to the Champagne Bar and restaurant before we checked out and we will certainly return for the "grazing" fine dining experience especially if we can get a good deal again.
Try this hotel, especially if you are arriving by train. It is a great location for the shops and handy for the northern quarter if you want a more quirky drinking experience.

My boyfriend and I stayed at ‘Abode’ 04/11/2008 for one night on a bed and breakfast basis. We got a really good deal direct with hotel at a cost of £89.

On arrival in the boutique style reception area the staff were friendly and efficient. We shared the lift to our room on the 3rd floor with a large banquet table (just sat there on its own!)

We stayed in a ‘comfortable’ rated room (cheapest) which wasn’t huge but was clean, had a king size bed, flat screen TV, DVD player, open hanging space, desk/dressing table with tea and coffee making facilities. The bathroom was a good size with bath (shower over).

Now for the negatives, as minor points as they may be they were noted by us!

1) The overall decoration and ‘finishing off’ seemed like it was a good DIY job and not that of a nice hotel....bathroom taps were fitted the wrong way, sections of the parquet flooring were loose etc
2) The room was directly under the illuminated hotel sign and the blackout blinds didn’t do their job.
3) The toiletries provided in the bathroom were cheap and nasty (shower gel and shampoo in one)...glad I took my own.
4) No parking (NCP is opposite, £15.50 for 24 hours)

We stayed at the hotel as we were eating at the Michael Caines restaurant (in the basement of the hotel) which was fabulous! .......as was the breakfast the following morning.

Overall we would recommend this hotel but wouldn’t pay any more than we did.

We trained to Manchester from London to see a performance and had researched hotels near the train station. Abode was two blocks from Piccadilly Station! It is in a gorgeous refurbished (opened May 2008) cotton warehouse. Amazing staircases and tile work. The front desk was helpful, the rooms comfortable and large. The renovation of the building is very "new millenium." As the hotel is on a main street, we asked for a side or back room and had no problem with street noise. If you want to stay in a historic buidling but have all the updated comforts, this is a great place!

We were looking for a hotel near Piccadilly station and the Abode certainly delivered on that aspect, as well as being good value for central Manchester. The front desk staff were friendly and extremely helpful in dealing with a public transport query. The cafe bar was very quiet in the early evening and we enjoyed a light snack before going to the theatre. Breakfast was similarly good. The decor in the public areas is different and interesting, reflecting the hotel building's industrial heritage with a modern twist. However, the wooden floors in the corridors did magnify the sound of people passing by, housekeeping activities, doors closing etc. Our room (just the basic level) was surprisingly large, as was the bathroom. It was nicely equiped - I had no problem with the open storage, although the shelf I put my clothes on was a little dusty. The bed was very comfortable.
My only reservation was that although the hotel is in an interesting victorian building, the room was disappointingly sterile in character. Normally I have no problem with modern style in an older building but I just don't think they've got it right here. The exposed metal beams, columns and walls were all painted in cream which did make it seem like a room in some sort of institution! However, it was a good stay and I'd probably return.

From the courteous reception to the surprise at the spacious and different room decor, you know you are not staying at a "run of the mill" city hotel. Original tiled stairwells, parquet floor and designer rugs in the bedrooms - extremely comfortable beds and classy bathrooms. Ate superb fare at Michael Caines, went through the wine list after a busy working day - relaxed and refreshed.

Abode is a gem - and a very reasonable one at that!
