Where do we start?
There is a few of these places springing up that seem to masquerade a tired and jaded opulence as something fashionable ...but it really isn't. It's an excuse to knock up old warehouses into hotel rooms with paper thin plasterboard walls and fill them full of fibreboard repro "tk maxx" antiques that give the owners an excuse to not dust as it adds to the "ambience" ..but those are the BEST bits....oh and the bed and pillows WERE comfortable, and tea, coffee lemon and ice in the rooms were a nice touch..but there it sadly ends.
Breakfast should be included in the price of course ...its passable, but nothing special and after all these rooms are EXPENSIVE by Manchester centre standards ....
Now the bad bits ...We booked 3 weeks before for a certain room, but they never seem to have any of them free...it's sort of a "come down and we will sort something nice for you" ....which just doesn't cut it. The room was a decent size, the bed was sadly very "wobby" and creaked if you so much as sat up ...one of the 4 posts was tilting at an angle, so I am guessing its ready to snap underneath ....but i wasnt in the mood for woodwork. Tray charge is £4 a throw , which is a bit nasty as the food and drinks you are ordering are already marked up stratospherically. One of the windows in the room was wedged closed. the other it took both of us swinging on it to get it an inch open ...presumably to deter smokers ....which it obvously didnt as the corridor stank of ganja.
Walls ...Walls? ...don't get me started...they are like tracing paper...on one side we had a young couple having sex and shortly after they started fighting and the reception had to come up as he was threatening to "hit her again if she didnt shut up" ...yes, it was like being in the same room. We could hear everything., anyway they seemed to patch it up, but just as we were getting to sleep the "clubbers" came in around 2-3am ...and preceded to laugh and scream almost all night ...yep. The bar noise sounds like you are at a table down there, so its a toss up which is the most annoying. But yeah, it just don't work. Staff seemed friendly enough, but obviously well programmed by management to "smile and do nowt" ...which sadly is standard service these days.
Got so fed up at one stage, i went outside for a smoke, only to be availed by a ruck between 2 taxi drivers and a couple of drag queens, one of which had thrown up in his car. Do i have a "victorian" attitude to fun ...no! ..I can just think of better ways to spend £200 to get the same ambience ...you know like curled up in a urine-pooled doorway drinking paint thinner..honestly it was that bad.
...and just WHAT is the deal with this £50 charge on your card on TOP of your room charge, then they refund you ...or do they ...I had to call my bank to make sure, no-one seems to know ...what is it a stealth charge? ...I mean, when i asked they said it was any room service i might want...when i said i didnt need any or would pay at the time i was told it was in case of "room damage" LOL ...Well you can bet i took plenty of photos of the wonky bed, toilet seat falling off, cupboard doors loose and window that would fall forward if you pulled it.
Is this what you want? ...Do you go to a hotel to gather evidence as you FEEL from the outset they are going to "shaft" you ...its hardly comfortable ....Our package include 2 FREE cocktails ...which you have to ask for over and over ....giving away stuff they promised you is NOT high on their agenda.
I cannot believe the good ratings it gets on here ...It's either peoples acceptance levels in Manchester have gone through the floor or they have all their mates posting reviews for a cheap room.
Result Tacky, Overpriced. AVOID
My wife wants me to add as well the TV remote didn't work, and room service/cleaner asked did we want anything at 10pm as well ...(strange)
Dont bother complaining ...you wont get a reply ...they know once they have your dough, your not coming back anyway.
angry? ...well I am ....I feel i have been ripped off and sold a lie ...and so will you
