Due to the snow in December my husband and I were stuck in Manchester overnight so we made a last minute decision to stay at Velvet, it was a brilliant choice! We loved everything about this hotel. The staff were really friendly and helpful, the room was very opulent yet quirky with great attention to detail and we had the most amazing bathroom. We didn’t eat here but we did sample a few of the cocktails in the bar and everything was faultless. We will definitely be staying here again and again and again!

The Velvet was a great experience from start to finish, the area was vibrant and the hotel décor was quirky and fun. The attention to detail was superb from the free wifi, ipod docking station, dvd player to the fresh jug of milk, ground coffee, biscuits and ice cubes in the room. The in-room bar/snacks/room service where normal price, not like the rip off price some hotels charge, so that was a pleasant change.

The customer service was also excellent with nothing appearing to be too much trouble. Breakfast was super, a really good choice freshly made to order. We ate in the restaurant the prices were not expensive and the food was very good. Oh and the bar was buzzing with a cocktail menu to die for.

Only negative we had was although we were staying at the back of the hotel you could still hear some street noise, BUT it wouldn’t put us off returning or recommending The Velvet. We will be going back - Perfect for shopping and partying.

My boyfriend and I stayed here on the 8th July for one night.
Absolutely gorgeous hotel, everything has been really thought about in terms of decor and accessories! I loved it, it was so glam :-) we stayed in room 16 which was amazing, a huge kingside bed, iPod docking, lovely clean bathroom and everything else along with it was lovely!
The staff were lovely at check in. We were offered complimentary tea and coffee. They also have a selection of DVDs to watch if you want at no extra charge. We went out to eat and look around manchester and returned to find our bed turned down and some chocolates on our pillows!! And smooth radio playing! Lovely touch :-)
The only downside was the paper thin Walls. I didn't get the best night sleep as I could hear everything the couple in the room next to us were doing/talking about! Other than that this hotel is wonderful and I look forward to returning soon!!!

We booked the "clubbing option" for 2 nights stay at Velvet. We're definitely not clubbers - but this is a great discounted deal on the clear understanding that there might be noise from the bar below. Actually, there was hardly any noise and, the room was fantastic mix of old and new - an opulent 4-poster bed, shabby chic furnishings (but spotlessly clean), ipod docking station and flatscreen tv. The staff were excellent - in fact, I've never encountered more friendly and helpful staff. Velvet has a very cool but exuberant downstairs bar, and a lovely basement restaurant. The clubbing deal came with a complimentary bottle of fizz, an excellent deal for their restaurant, free cocktails in the bar, and a lovely breakfast (with good veggie options). Velvet offers a little splash of opulence in the heart of Manchester - and the deal we got just can't be beat!

Booked for my wife for Christmas present. We were in the penthouse which is lovely and split on two levels. staff are very polite and friendly. Restaurant is nice too. About 5 min walk from Piccadilly train station. Perfect for a romantic night in nice location. It is in the gay area though so maybe not for prudes but idea was to enjoy the lovely room, not the nightlife.

Finally got to stay at Velvet, well worth the wait. All the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful in a relaxed and genuine way. We were given the opportunity to upgrade and pleased we did, huge double bath and beautiful room with balcony. Had a great nights sleep - had been slightly nervous that it may be noisy but that wasn't the case. The hotel is situated in the middle of Manchester so really convenient for bars, clubs and restaurants though we ate at the Velvet and had a lovely meal.
Looking forward to our next visit - loved it.
There is no on-site parking but you do get a discount if you use the nearest NCP.

I booked this hotel as a suprise anniversary present for my girlfriend so she was slighly suprised when we walked down 'Canal Street'. As soon as we arrived we felt very welcome, they gave us free cocktail vouchers for the bar and upgraded to the Penthouse (room 406) free of charge! (Nice little Christmas present) The room was amazing, it had a lot of character with funky deisgns and quirky features. We were then given complimentary tea (yorkshire) and coffee (cafetiere), plus mince pies, cookies and shortbreads - I have never been so well looked after! The best thing about the hotel is that no two rooms are the same so you never quite know what design you may end up with, so if you like to be a little bit different then this hotel is definaitely a must. I had read a few reviews about it being noisy at night, we did not find this the case as we got a perfectly silent nights sleep. I am so glad I booked this hotel, I will definately be returning when I am next in Manchester.
