Owner description: The Manchester Museum is home to an array of treasures from the natural world and the many cultures it is home to. Highlights include a T.rex and fossils of other pre-historic creatures, ancient Egyptian artefacts and live amphibians and reptiles. You can handle objects from the collection, take part in hands-on activities or enjoy a glass of wine of cup of coffee whilst exploring the latest ideas in science, culture and the arts.

We visited the museum yesterday and spent a very enjoyable 3 hours there. The natural history collections were excellent , but the endangered frogs and lizards in the Vivarium were particularly fascinating and educational. The highlight, however, was listening to the curator of the Egyptian Galleries, Campbell Price, describe the origins and the significance of several of the unique artefacts held in the excellent Egyptian collection. A real treat.
Manchester is clearly a vibrant city with lots to offer both it's residents and the occasional visitor - but the Manchester Museum is well worth a few hours of anyone's time - and not simply as a fall back on a rainy day. This really is a "must do" in Manchester.

We visited the muse last week during kids half term with our 2 kids ages 6&8. My youngest is learning about dinosaurs at school so went specifically to see Stan the T-Rex. Didn't know what to expect but it was great. Lots to see without being too big, from ancient Egypt, the solar system, dinosaurs and living creatures. Has a cafe and shop which surprisingly had reasonably priced pocket money gifts which is a real change to the normal feeling of being ripped off in these type of gift shops.

We parked at the nearby Aquatic Centre car park which is a 3 minute walk away for £2.40 for up to 2 hours.

A very enjoyable couple of hours and would highly recommend.

Manchester Museum is a great place to visit for 3-4 hours in a rainy day. You will find there so many interesting exhibits. I enjoyed so much the ancient world objects, mummies, Egyptian and Roman objects. Another great exhibition is the one with dinosaur skeletons and fossils. There is also an exhibit with stuffed animals.
I recommend this place to anyone interested in ancient worlds exploration and in studying the evolution of species. In Manchester Museum you will find anything from dinosaurs and fossils to stuffed tigers and lions.
There is no fee to visit the museum and you can also take pictures inside.

The ancient worlds section of the museum is good and fairly well laid out. There's a huge section devoted to stuffed animals - great if you are in to that sort of thing (I'm not)
