I looked on this site for reviews of the place before deciding on booking here, since there is only one, and it seemed okay, I went to their own website to check it out, and booked an overnight stay here. The website is great, and tells alsorts about the history of the building, boasting "new en-suites". By the time me and my party got there, taking up two top attic en-suites the newness had definately wore off! The paper was peeling off the walls showing a great deal of dirty, black patches of damp. The room itself would have been pleasant but for the dirty carpet and the dusty cupboards-the wardrobe couldn't be closed despite it having a key-and the ledges had a good few inches of dust that showed that it hadn't been cleaned for a considerable amount of time! The bathrooms in both rooms were also covered in a lot of dust and the toilet was dirty, so we set to and gave it all a good clean before we used it. Incidentally, there was no door on the bathroom, so little privacy! We did not have any alternative, so resolved to stay the night, all other hotels and places to stay in Manchester were already fully booked due to the Britain's Got Talent Auditions filming that same weekend. We chose to go out for our evening meal, which was just as well, because by the time we had cleaned the bathroom upstairs, they had ceased to serve food. On our return we all retired to our rooms, where we found the duvets musty and smelly, but making the best out of the deal, we retired to bed, only to be woken much into the night by some tapping on our door, where there was much giggling and stumbling about. We heard men's voices and more tapping before they eventually went away. We were nonplussed by this event, and since we were a party of all girls, were quite disconcerted, since we were told by the barmaid who checked us in that there was a door to the upper floor which was locked at all times-this was obviously not true since the "gentlemen" who got up to our rooms had somehow gained entry to the upper floor and had returned when they could not get our response. When we checked out the next morning, having had a fitful sleep, one of our party saw a sign on one of the overhead beams advertising, quote, "Afternoon Naps" which were available at an hourly rate!!! I can say that the barstaff were pleasant, and asked if we would like a receipt upon payment as we arrived, so we did not expect to be asked for the money on our exit as well! Sorry, but for £50 a night without breakfast on the menu, I found the Old Nag's Head a little expensive, and I would not stay here again.
