“nice hotel, good location”
Reviewed 17 February 2011

i stayed here a few times when it was the yang sing (and paid less but for a lower grade room so i think the prices are around the same now) - i think the rooms are the same with the addition of the kitchenette but there were far more extras (full breakfast, free mini bar, high end toiletries, slippers, bath robe, proper milk & coffee) previously which offered much better value for money, however due to the location and decent rooms i would still highly recommend this hotel. Previously as the yang sing this was the best hotel i had ever stayed in... but it seems they tried to offer too much for too little?

the positives are:
clean, spacious rooms, nice bathrooms
useful kitchenette
good location, walking distance to train station and city centre
friendly staff
free coffee/pastry breakfast
computer/free wifi

the negatives are:
the negatives to me are mainly around the value for money...
when paying around £100 per night i would expect more/better toiletries (there was no conditioner/moisturiser/shower cap)
also as the floor is a mix of carpet and laminate/wood and the bathroom floor gets fairly wet it would be nice to have slippers
the room we stayed in had a noisy bed! i forgot to mention to the staff that maybe something needed tightening so it wasn't that bad but it did wake me up, also the bedding didn't seem to fit properly (the pillows were squashed into a cover that was too small - making them uncomfortable for someone who prefers flatter pillows!), again this wasn't a major problem and i'm sure if we'd have said something they might have offered an alternative...
it was cold when we stayed but not freezing outside however the room was very cold upon arrival but we just dropped off our bags and didn't think to check/switch the heating on, so when we came back to our room to get ready to go out we put the heating on (to 25) after about 45 mins it was till cold, we were told to switch up to max (28) and wait another hour for the heat to kick in!!! the room did heat up and we left it on full for the majority of our stay as we didn't want to come back to a cold room again and have the same problem... i realise the building is old and this would be quite difficult to resolve but maybe the heating could be on ready for guests arriving so you're not getting showered/dressed etc in the cold? also some helpful hints to set the temp to an adequate 28 would be useful?
the location is busy at the weekend so expect to be able to hear people having fun in the evening along with the occasional siren!!

Thank you for taking the time to post your review with your positive coments.
You are quite right this was the Yang Sing Oriental Hotel several years ago, as Roomzzz had purchased the property back in 2009. Whilst the structure, decor and layout has remained the same, Roomzzz had installed the kitchenettes and Apple Mac in each room, and most recently have replaced the carpets and retaining the solid wood flooring throughout.
The similarities of the concepts of Roomzzz Apart Hotels and the Yang Sing Oriental Hotel are significantly different, as I understand under the former ownership the hotel was targetting a 5 star market, with the touches as you highlight.
We are currently addressing the external noise issue, which includes installing sound insulation to the window reveals and refurbishing the external sash windows. The result of this work has had a considerable effect on reducing the external noise, and we are receiving some fantastic feedback from our guests as a result.
I was sorry to learn of the issue with the heating. Each room has a seperate heating / air conditioning control. I have asked our maintainance engineer to check the heating in the room, however if the control is set to air conditioning as opposed to heat then the room would not get warmer. To set the temperature to 28 degrees would not be pratical, as a usual domestic heating would be set between 18-20 degrees. Your comments are noted though and we welcome your suggestion.
I was pleased to note your positive comments and that you had enjoyed your stay and thank you for posting your review

The hotel is great, very modern looking, clean and well presented. The rooms have a mini kitchen in them with cooker, kettle, toaster, sink, fridge & microwave. They also come fully supplied with plates, glasses and cups (including tea bags!) making for the best comfort, right in the centre of Manchester.

They also free wi-fi and an apple computer that works through the TV, meaning you can not only watch TV, but also stream online content such as the BBC iPlayer straight from the comfort of your own bed! Add to that a spacious bathroom, two showers and simple air con/heating - this place is almost better then being at home!!

The only slight complaint I would have, is that the double bed consists of two single mattresses pushed together, and so it wasn't all that comfortable to sleep in. However, I will definitely stay here again!

Thank you for taking the time to post your review. Your comments are very much appreciated and I was pleased to note you appreciated the touches which we do pride ourselves upon here at Roomzzz.
With regards to the bed, we do use 'Zip & Link' beds in several of our rooms which allows the flexibility of offering a twin bedded room if required. These are commonly used throughout hotels and whilst it may appear as 2 Single beds, the mattresses are zipped together to provide a king size double bed, whilst the bases are anchored together.
Thank you once again for posting your review, and I trust we will have the pleasure of welcoming you back in the not too distant future.

I thought Roomzzz ApartHotel Manchester is slightly hidden away. i only stumbled across it because i was lost trying to find the hotel i was staying at (Prem Inn). It is in a nice location.

At Roomzzz I've stayed in the Grande Studio room which is a really nice room. I've also stayed in the Maxima Suite which is just out of this world. I booked the Maxima Suite to impress my partner and she was definitely impressed, From iMac computer, The iPhone Radio/Alarm Clock Dock, The Bedroom area being on the second level in the room to the electric window blinds on the roof of the room :) not forgetting the TV in the bath room :)

The Staff at Roomzzz were amazing too, VERY helpful!!!

Being dead honest with my review i can honestly say i couldn't find a fault with my overall stay and now i have stayed at Roomzzz i wouldn't stay at any other ApartHotel in Manchester. I will definitely be staying there again sometime soon, and i will be recommending this Hotel to my friends.

Very minor criticism, paintwork could do with repairing. Otherwise, would highly recommend this aparthotel. We stayed in Maxima room with mezzanine level for bed. Excellent value for money - particuarly if you book in advance. Spacious, Comfortable, TV in BATH room, small kitchenette. Right by Chinatown, with Thai massage centre ( treat yourself). Shopping - Deansgate, Arndale etc all 10 minute walk. We stay in Manchester as nearest city for special occasions, we were loyal to 1 hotel a few doors away, it took a lot to entice us, but not only succeeded, but exceeded expectations. Love, love, love it.

Soon as you walk into the hotel it is really modern and all the staff are really nice, we stayed 2 nights in the hotel in one of the top suites which was worth every penny. The room was really big and had 3 TV's on in the bathroom which was good. All the rooms have an Imac in them as well which is really handy and are really clean, the staff were really helpful, even the man at reception brough us another qulit cover up for us at 4:30am.

Overall I would say this is one of the best hotels in Manchester and is worth every penny and would come back!
