i stayed here a few times when it was the yang sing (and paid less but for a lower grade room so i think the prices are around the same now) - i think the rooms are the same with the addition of the kitchenette but there were far more extras (full breakfast, free mini bar, high end toiletries, slippers, bath robe, proper milk & coffee) previously which offered much better value for money, however due to the location and decent rooms i would still highly recommend this hotel. Previously as the yang sing this was the best hotel i had ever stayed in... but it seems they tried to offer too much for too little?
the positives are:
clean, spacious rooms, nice bathrooms
good location, walking distance to train station and city centre
free coffee/pastry breakfast
the negatives are:
the negatives to me are mainly around the value for money...
when paying around £100 per night i would expect more/better toiletries (there was no conditioner/moisturiser/shower cap)
also as the floor is a mix of carpet and laminate/wood and the bathroom floor gets fairly wet it would be nice to have slippers
the room we stayed in had a noisy bed! i forgot to mention to the staff that maybe something needed tightening so it wasn't that bad but it did wake me up, also the bedding didn't seem to fit properly (the pillows were squashed into a cover that was too small - making them uncomfortable for someone who prefers flatter pillows!), again this wasn't a major problem and i'm sure if we'd have said something they might have offered an alternative...
it was cold when we stayed but not freezing outside however the room was very cold upon arrival but we just dropped off our bags and didn't think to check/switch the heating on, so when we came back to our room to get ready to go out we put the heating on (to 25) after about 45 mins it was till cold, we were told to switch up to max (28) and wait another hour for the heat to kick in!!! the room did heat up and we left it on full for the majority of our stay as we didn't want to come back to a cold room again and have the same problem... i realise the building is old and this would be quite difficult to resolve but maybe the heating could be on ready for guests arriving so you're not getting showered/dressed etc in the cold? also some helpful hints to set the temp to an adequate 28 would be useful?
the location is busy at the weekend so expect to be able to hear people having fun in the evening along with the occasional siren!!
