Reviewed 25 March 2012

Stayed at the The Midland for a conference, having lived in Manchester a while I had never actually stayed here but decided to take the opportunity this weekend.
There is nothing wrong with this hotel that I can find, but then there isn't really much "WOW" factor, so it's ideal for a business or leisure break, but I would probably go for somewhere like The Lowry or The Radisson Edwardian for a special occasion or a luxury break. That may just be a personal taste thing - this is quite an old style hotel. Lovely, but not cutting edge. It does feel very snug and I had a brilliant nights sleep.
I stayed in room 204 and it was wonderfully quiet at night. Good bath and shower. Very clean. Imposing image of Manchester architecture on the wall and a million pillows not my taste but overall very good. Not the biggest room but not small at all. Plenty of space for two.
The whole place is really clean, the staff polite and well turned out.
Re-parking, anyone who knows Manchester should know that this is at a premium in the city centre, I would strongly suggest taking advantage of the brilliant public transport links that serve this hotel - Bus, Train and a tram practically opposite the front door. Tonnes of taxis too if you want to take it easy.
Lots of lovely eateries and bars near by, and a very cheap cinema (The AMC - £4 after 11!). Cannot complain, other than a few things weren't to my taste, but does what is does very well. A solid 4 star.

Room Tip: Rooms without a street view are a lot quieter.

Dear seah0rsegirl,

Many thanks for taking the time to review The Midland and for your kind comments. The Midland is what it is and has a lot of affection for Mancunians as it has quite an imposing facade with an elegant interior. I'm pleased that our team looked after you and that your room and its amenities and design were to your satisfaction. Please note also that we are very lucky to have all of the major transport options literally on our doorstep as it does help our guests considerably as they make their way around the city be it business or pleasure.

Thank you once again and I hope to see you return soon.

Kind regards

Classy place and good service. For the price, we felt it was value. Big rooms and high ceilings.

We visit Manchester a few times a year and have never found a hotel we would stay in twice until now. The Midland is great, think Downton Abbey meets modern services all delivered with that famous Manchester charm by the staff.
Our biggest surprise was how well we slept, really comnfortable beds, and utterly quiet, as our room faced a quadrangle and so virtually no city centre noise was detectable.
A well decorated modern bathroom with a heated towel tail and fluffy towels, the only gripe being the loo seat continually got stuck on the ledge behind it, but spotlessly clean. A well stocked mini bar, and comfortable seats to sit and relax in. The atmosphere walking the corridors is as if you were in some ancient manor house, very tasteful and a lovely peaceful colour scheme.
We ate in the restaurant once and the service was a little slow, but to be fair it was very late in the evening and a lot of people arrived at the same time.
The food was good apart from the home made chunky chips were definitely soggy.
The pool was a perfect temperature and the jacuzzi piping hot as it should be.
Breakfast was superb, cooked to perfection and an enormous choice.
In short this Hotel is somewhere we were sorry to leave and a perfect location for The Bridgewater Hall where we enjoyed a performance from Caro Emerald , parking isn't cheap at £18 a day but it is in a secure nearby car park.
A short walk takes you through St Peter's Square to hundreds of restaurants and the shops on Deansgate, yet it felt serene inside so you could relax as well as party or shop..
I'm loathe to write this review, as it might well be hard to book next time, but they deserve credit for leaving us anticipating our next stay there.

Room Tip: Ask to face the quadrangles

Dear Henryhorn,

Thanks so much for taking the time to review The Midland and for all your kind and honest words; where we didn't hit the mark completely please be assured that the team are already working on the fine detail.

If when next you are planning to visit us I would really appreciate it if you would let me know in advance personally so I can ensure that we look after you as well, if not better, than we did on this occasion.

That said it is very clear that you had a great time in Manchester and in this fantastic hotel and I can only thank you once again for letting others know.

stayed with work at the hotel recently and i was very impressed by the standards throughout. The bedroom and conference faclilates were exceptional and i was very impressed by the catering standards for such a large group of people. From the moment i worked through the door, the staff were really helpful by taking my bags and looked after me, which i really appriciated after my long journey. i would like to put a special mention to Robert, the duty manager who was exceedingly charming and helpful.

Dear Ellie T,

First of all many thanks for highlighting how well you felt we did during your stay as a Conference delegate. The Midland hotel as you may be aware is a big player and indeed a Centre of Excellence for conferencing delivery in the UK and delivers some of the most high profile events / banquets and conferences in Europe. However I'm probably more pleased because you have kindly made mention of it on TripAdvisor as it is not normally a forum used by our business guests to highlight what is our weekday core business.

Thanks for letting others know of your delight with each aspect of what we do and for your kind words generally it is appreciated.

We look forward to your return.

We just love this place, it is such a wonderful hotel with brilliant staff and is excellent value. Breakfast is great with lots of choice and fresh food, staff are always very helpful and nothing is to much trouble. The rooms are always spacious and beautifully clean and the beds are amazing! we can't wait to return. The lady in the leisure facility was brilliant and organised a really special treat for my son's birthday, all in all a brilliant weekend away for me and my family x

Stayed here in January (sorry for the delay in writing the review), dinner, bed and breakfast as a Christmas gift. Beautiful room, everything lovely and clean. The bed was wonderful - like sleeping on a cloud!
The staff couldn't do enough for us, anywhere in the hotel. Used the leaisure facilities - pool and jacuzzi. Staff friendly and helpful, pool etc was lovely and warm (defrosted us after being outside in the cold!).
The evening meal was lovely and the "manchester tart 3 ways" is a must for dessert.

Only negative was that the bottled water in the room looked as though the bottles had been refilled - all the seals broken and the sparkling water had no sparkle! Did ring down to reception and the replacement was the same - odd for such a lovely establishment.
Would definately stay again - in fact the afternoon tea looked fantastic, but didn't get chance to try, maybe next time!

Room Tip: We had a suite, which was thanks to our stay being a gift, but worth every penny if you were paying!

Just returned from a stay at the Midland. I cannot fault the staff from start to finish, from reception to the restaurant staff. In particular, Kieran who works in the leisure club. He was especially helpful with the children. We managed to get the pool and sauna to ourselves which was perfect timing. We were made to feel very special and would recommend this hotel to anyone. The bedroom was perfect to accommodate the five of us, nothing was too much trouble and made a mothers day treat very memorable. Am now saving up for next year so we can hopefully book afternoon tea, which looked amazing!!!

Great to read also that you used our leisure facilities and that you thought well of Keiran and that our Afternoon Tea looked as great as those that attended it found it tasted.
