One of the few places in Manchester where you can find a traditional afternoon tea.
There hotel is wonderful and full of history and it was nice to go somewhere where previous generations of mine had worked.
The afternoon tea was fantastic - the blends of tea were tasty and different; the sandwiches were delicious (with the inclusion of a grilled vegetable option for vegetarians that was not on the menu); the cakes and scones were so tasty and the ambience and opulence of the lounge was impressive.
The only thing that let us down was a single member of staff: a rotund gentleman who positively ignored us until we got HIS attention and who subsequently expected right of way any time you were walking in the same area. His general deportment was one of arrogance. I just don't think there's room or need for that behaviour. What's more, it denigrates the fact that the lady who served us was lovely and attentive and couldn't do more to help.

Dear Mistyminded,

Many thanks for your lovely comments about our Afternoon Tea. Please be assured that I will speak with the team to ensure all of them behave always like the former rather than the latter of whom you mentioned within our team. To be fair every one of them have recieved personal praise for their efforts so I'm sure it is something that can be identified and so overcome. Thus helping us to continue to deliver one of the very best Afternoon Tea offers in the UK.

Thank you once again and we look forward to your return. Just let me know when as I'd be delighted to show you some more of this magnificent Hotel.

Kind regards

The rooms are plush and lovely. Very romantic; however the in room entertainment looks very very dated. Small TV and no on demand movies, only timed showings. Limited TV channels. Reception had very good service. Breakfast was hopeless, they ran out of all eggs on the buffet, the room checking process was tortuous and coffee took forever to arrive.
I would come here as a couple, as it is a lovely hotel, but they need to buck up a bit for business.

The Q Midland was ideally placed for our conference at Manchester Central and our overnight stay was very good.

For only one night we did not really get to find out too much about it's facilities but there was nothing that we would complain about - on reflection our room on 4th floor was smaller than expected, the headboard scruffy and badly fixed, and the hair dryer was a bit of a toy, nothing serious.

Staff were all without exception friendly and efficient - Q group obviously train staff well.

Buffet breakfast up to scratch for a 4* - but get the toaster fixed, a number of people wasting time in the inevitable queue.

There is no car park and local street parking expensive 7days a week. Park in the NCP seems to be the cost effective option. The hotel would do well to negotiate a concession.

We had a good value booking through a Turkish site, saved £30. Worth looking beyond the popular booking sites.

Room Tip: Do a wide Internet search to get the best value room.

Stayed here for a concert in Manchester, great location, asked at reception for directions who couldnt have been nice, also booked us a taxi.
Breakfast in the morning was busy and felt a bit rushed but worth it. Get down early or you have to queue for seats.
Rooms are spotless and spacey. Very peacefull night.
Had a drink at the bar which had a great atmosphere.
Would definatly stay again!

My Family and I have just had a fantastic night away (again) at the Midland, our party was made up of 2 adults, a 15yr old and 2 children 2 and 4. The service from the moment we checked in was second to non, the staff could not do enough for us. Our 2 rooms were great, very spacious and well prepared.
Everything lived up to what we have expierenced in the past and what we hoped for.

We will most certainly be back very soon.
Our only slight disapointment was that the new Q Hotels web site did not present the Midland particularly well or show for this great hotel in its' full glory - If this was my first exposure to the hotel I may be looking elsewhere.

See you soon...

Room Tip: Call and talk to the hotel - they could not do enough to help.
