I visited this hotel to attend a conference. Access to the hotel via the tram was very easy and conveneint. The hotel was beautiful and has retained its old world charm in a truly sumptuous way. The meal in the bistro restaurant was good quality and value and the room was extremely warm and comfortable.

We stayed at the Midland Hotel for a Wedding. The hotel is lovely and traditional with a beautiful entrance. Dropping off the luggage was not easy and you had to park nearby. Our room was lovely and we had a very enjoyable week-end. Good position to explore Manchester as transport was very nearby. The room used for the Wedding was beautiful and all the staff were very helpful. We would certainly recommend the hotel and would be happy to stay again when we next visit Manchester.

On 19 January we celebrated our wedding at the Midland with 100 guests.

From the start, the assistance we received from Nina Rodriguez, the in-house wedding co-ordinator, really helped us to prepare for the day. She accommodated our special needs, such as a late 4pm ceremony and having the band setting up in advance in the afternoon, and helped us to deal with everything that needed to be done, sending us reminder emails almost on a daily basis in the final weeks. This helped to reduce my stress levels considerably when my fiancee was sent abroad on a 6 day business trip 2 weeks before the wedding and I was left to sort everything out!

From the moment our guests began to arrive the day before the wedding, we were all made to feel so welcome and the lobby and bar area began to feel like our own living room.

On the wedding day itself my parents' room was ready for them at 11am when they arrived and my wife and I were delighted when we were upgraded to a suite free of charge. A nice touch offered by the Midland is that both sets of parents receive complimentary rooms and they were made to feel very special by the hotel and (for my wife and our mums) the staff in the hairdressing salon.

Steve, the master of ceremonies, was so supportive throughout the day, from setting up the room for the wedding breakfast, announcing the speeches, dealing with the inevitable delays in the timetable and greeting us after the ceremony with a glass of champagne, which was a lovely touch.

The beautiful oak-panelled Lancaster Suite, where we held the ceremony, was really intimate, especially when lit by candles. The hotel gave us exclusive use of the Octagon for our drinks reception, which is a stunning location under the massive Moroccan lantern. So many of our guests commented on the quality of the delicious canapes served, which is a reflection on the quality of what the Midland can offer, and the food at the wedding breakfast - the hotel had tweaked the menu to suits our needs - was delicious and not like the mass-produced fare you often get at large functions.

The Edwardian-style Trafford Room, where we held the wedding breakfast, looked spectacular when lit with candelabra, and it was ideal for the dinner dance format that we wanted for the wedding (without the need to be thrown out of the room for it to be turned around for the "night do") - our guests could go straight onto the dance floor not long after the speeches and our first dance.

Throughout, the staff were friendly and helpful, even when we had the group photo on in the lobby and our guests decided to throw confetti everywhere! And when we returned to our room at the end of the evening there was a bottle of champagne on ice waiting for us, with a handwritten card from the manager.

So many of our guests have said how lovely the weeding was, and the Midland and its fantastic staff, including the brilliant concierge, who was inundated with gifts and packages to bring down from our room, really made it for everyone.

My parents loved it so much that they will be returning to the Midland later this year for a weekend to relive the experience.

The Midland is a wonderful grand old hotel with an old fashioned sense of service and we couldn't have imagined getting married anywhere else. Thank you!

A group of 17 of us went to The Midland for champagne afternoon tea yesterday. We had arranged this to celebrate my daughters baby shower. The table was set out for us beautifully and we were made very welcome. The choice of teas was amazing and we also had a delicious glass of champagne and a glass of madeira. The sandwich selection was lovely as were the cakes. There was also scones with various preaserves and clotted cream.
The service was perfect and the staff were attentive and eager to bring more tea and sandwiches. They even provided doggy bags for us to take cakes home with us!
I will definately have afternoon tea there again, perhaps after a theatre matinee.

The Midland, overall, has to be the best hotel in manchester. The Lowry is careful to charge you the earth for quite small rooms, and it is situated on the wrong side of town. The Hilton has the glitz, but very little glamour; cloud 23 is always rammed, and the hotel bar very gloomy. The Midland is where Manchester's professionals hang out, not the footballers; so stay here if that's what you like! Otels.com had nixed our reservation; the Midland staff sorted it out quickly, and gave us free drinks to apologise, even though it wasn't their fault! Nice quiet room ( ask for rooms facing the central courtyard) comfy bed, hot powerful shower, substantial breakfast...what more do you want?

I stayed here two years ago and found a couple of issues during my stay for which Neil, the guest relations manager, personally contacted me to try and put right whenever we may stay in the future.

I contacted Neil and he ensured we had a great visit - the hotel certainly has a charm about it, it would be perfect for a function type event.

Everything was great, the room was large and the breakfast great.

All the staff are great at this hotel and seem proud to work here.

Thanks for the personal attention Neil and I think responding to reviews to try to resolve are the sign of a hotel trying to go above and beyond.

We stayed at the Midland 31st January for 2 nights .our first impression was of a very imposing hotel with a beautiful entrance .we had arrived early so left our luggage with the concierge .
On return our booking in was efficiently done .
Our room was number 620 ,a huge room ,with a superking bed ,the room was immaculately clean with everything that makes for a very enjoyable stay .We were very impressed with the super lighting , and soft furnishings .
We ate in the Wyvern restaurant the first evening , and were rather disappointed with the food ,although the bread and butter pudding was delicious .
Breakfast at the Midland is really very good ,lots of choice ,every diet appears to be catered for .
Unfortunately we were unable to book for afternoon tea on the 1st Feb , They were fully booked and it looked as though a very small seating area was available for tea .
A really lovely touch was the framed greetings cards and letters which had been found when the hotel was renovated ,very interesting ,if you stay at the Midland take the time to read them !!!!
The staff were all friendly and efficient ,we must give a special mention to the concierge and the doorman ,very informative and obliging .
The Midland is a beautiful old hotel which has been renovated to a very high standard .
We certainly hope to return there .
