The Midland has a good location for us- close to Oxford Road Station and The Palace Theatre. Our last visit was a short 2 night break to see The Lion King. We got a great deal on the 2 nights and I felt that the hotel was excellent value. We made use of the leisure facilities, in particular the table tennis and (smallish) swimming pool. It's worth mentioning the particularly excellent service we received form the lady at the leisure centre who could not do enough for me or my children, bringing me a newspaper and towel to make me more comfortable.
Our room was for 2 adults and 2 children and was huge, containing 2 double beds and a double sofa-bed.
The service was good on the whole although we did wait for ages for a very simple lunch.
Would recommend this hotel to anyone and plan to stay next time we visit Manchester.

Room Tip: High floor and, as others have said, rooms overlooking courtyard are quieter.

We celebrated my mum's birthday by having afternoon tea at The Midland where she had worked for nearly 25 years. She retired tens ago! Mum was so excited as she reminised about the hotel and it's people from the laundry room in the basement to celebrities. She recognised an old colleague-Dawn who treated us like royalty. Thank you Dawn! The sandwiches, cakes and tea were delicious and a real treat. I can't believe we finished it all! It was beautifully presented, the service was attentive and we loved sitting the the middle of the Octagon people watching. Roll on the next celebration!

We celebrated a birthday with a one night stay at the Midland. Everything was perfect from check in to check out. Outstanding service on reception and in the bar. Rooms were beautiful and large. We will definitely be returning.

For an experience of service, comfort, and elegant surroundings, this is the only place to stay in Manchester. If possible always upgrade to a superior room where the beds are so comfortable, and the bathroom elegant (they even supply your bathrobes, so less to pack). If you like your food the buffet breakfasts are enormous with such a wide selection. The staff are so welcoming you feel like one of the family.

Room Tip: Always ask for a superior room with a view.

This hotel was booked for me through work for a conference at the Manchester Conference Centre which is at the back of the hotel. The rooms are large, comfortable and stylish. Breakfast are good, weird scrambled eggy but otherwise no complaints. The hotel has a good mix of business and pleasure stayers and the staff are friendly and attentive. A great stay in a great city!

Have stayed here a number of times but never got round to writing a review until now. Simply love the hotel and rooms. Comfortable, centrally located and always a pleasure. Took advantage of a special offer on one occasion and spent a weekend in a suite. Large and full of light, it made for an excellent stay. Staff have always been accommodating and helpful. The afternoon teas are worth having and rather delicious. A good old fashioned hotel which retains much of its former grandeur with a modern twist. And Manchester is a terrific place to visit anyway.
