“awful nights sleep but good food”
Reviewed 27 July 2014 via mobile

On entry the hotel is lovely. Beautiful drive up to the entrance. The reception is old fashioned but tastefully decorated. We were part of a bus tour so had to wait ages to check in even although there were 3 other people working on the reception. The twin room we had was very smell and absolutely roasting hot with 2 tiny windows and no air conditioning. This led to a dreadful sleep for both of us. The bathroom was a decent enough size but the shower was useless. Dinner is open sitting from either half 5 or 6 and I was surprised by now nice it is. The restaurant itself is lovely and clean feeling. Staff are good at clearing your dirty plates although I had to go to bar to order drinks. Food was delicious and ranged from soup and salad to start to roast beef and fish pie for mains. There was also a nice selection of desserts. Buffet style so you could help yourself. Breakfast was same set up and you could eat as much porridge, toast, fruit and fried stuff as you like. Some of the stuff was over cooked but overall is was fine. Checked out and the young lad at the reception didn't even crack a smile. I think if you get a reasonable deal for dinner bed and breakfast give it a try but I wouldn't pay much.

Firstly I would like to apologise for any inconvenience that may have been caused during your stay at the Britannia Country House Hotel.

We have been experiencing very hot weather over the last few weeks and unfortunately the bedrooms are very warm, we do leave the windows open to cool the rooms down. We do have fans for our guests to use, these are available from our reception.

Thank you for your constructive criticism your comments will be taken on board.

Kind Regards

We stayed here on the 5 july 1 night accomodation 14 nights car parking. A wedding reception greeted us, after a lot of driving around the grounds, we finally found the only parking space available for the 14 nights (pushed into the overgrowth and bushes with not much space to vacate it).Thought we would retire early, for the early morning departure 4.30 , At 12.30am.. all still wide awake with the beat from downstairs we called reception to be told it would finish at 1am. It did.. but then everyone left slowly an very noisely.building to the highlight of the night when the last remainding "guests"at 3pm stood under our window and started singing, shouting and swearing louder than I have ever heard.we callled reception who claimed they could not hear anything, and after saying we would be looking forcompensation if nothing was done they finally sent a manager out.In my opinion because of the location to the airport , any functions like this should be pointed out to all guests when booking as most surely are travelling early in the morning.
Will not go anywhere near this place again.

Our party of 7 arrived after a long flight and waiting a further 40 minutes on the free shuttle service only to find that the hotel had failed to have the rooms we had booked months in advance, we did have a booking reference which was totally ignored by the utterly useless manager (July 7th at 1.00am - just in case the Britannia area manager wants to follow this up, which I doubt, he obviously employed him so give little hope), kept us waiting at the front desk while trying to attend to other arrivals who seemed to have similar problems. After an hour we asked them to call someone else in the company but was another waste of 15 minutes, the person we spoke to in a central office told us we had no choice but to pay for the rooms needed again and then tomorrow we could speak to our travel agent and sort it out, at this point the duty manager stated that he had no rooms left..........at this point I decided enough was enough.............we then had to fuel our cars and make the 5 hour trip home with 3 very tired kids and 4 very annoyed adults. In around 30 years of travelling all over the world I have never come across such an attitude, truly was despicable, I WILL NEVER USE THIS HOTEL GROUP AGAIN AND WILL INFORM ANYONE WHO I COME INTO CONTACT WITH TO AVOID THEM AT ALL COSTS - On returning home we reported this to our travel agent and where given an immediate refund, they promised that they would think twice about using this company in the future.

Thank you for your comments following your stay with us at the Britannia Country House Hotel.

I am sorry that we had no record of your booking on your arrival at the Hotel. Our reception staff followed the correct procedure by ringing our central reservation as they would deal with all bookings, including those booked through a 3rd party travel agent. Unfortunately there was no record of your booking on our system and therefore I can only assume that your travel agent had not transferred your booking to our central reservations. The booking reference number you had was a reference number that was given to you by your agent and was not a Britannia reference number. It is company policy that all bedrooms are paid for on check in which is why our reception staff were unable to check you in as due to the time they were unable to speak to your travel agent. Our Reservations did give you the correct information and could have made a new booking for you to enable you to stay and we could have spoken to your agent to resolve this issue for you the following morning however this offer was declined.

If I can be of any further assistance to you please contact me at the hotel directly.

Kind regards

One night stay for an airport transfer. air con was broken in restaurant, school dinners had to take my beer back. Don't usually do negative reviews but unfortunately this was not good. I would look elsewhere before coming here.

Stayed at this hotel for one night on Saturday 19th July, 2014. I e mailed them a week before and requested a quiet, non-smoking room, Having received no reply from them I called them the day before arrival and was assured that my request would be met. On arrival, they had no knowledge of this and their attitude was well what we have offered you is basically all that we have. We were allocated a ground floor room which was so small, you could barely move around. The view was of a brick wall in un kept grounds and the only ventilation was a small top window. The room itself was as the rest of the hotel, very dated, sticky surfaces and in my opinion in need of a good deep clean. Not a good night’s sleep was had, the corridor was extremely noisy with people coming in and out at all hours. The grounds outside the hotel aren’t much to speak about, quite scruffy in areas and a noticeable amount of cigarette ends. We ate in the restaurant, which to be truthful wasn’t too bad. The staff weren’t very attentive, you were basically left to help yourselves and get on with it.
Would I stay there again, probably not, there are better places on offer.

hotel is lovely and bargain price however, if the weathers warm outside be prepared to boil in the bag in your room. No air con or fans - we had to sleep with cold wet towels on - bad nights sleep, shame though as it is a nice convenient hotel - only 5 min drive to airport

We stayed here before and this time before going away we decided to stay 2 nights on may 24th. This hotel gets bad reviews but I have to disagree. This hotel offers budget prices and is always busy so surely cant be that bad. On arrival we headed to reception, where they were pleasant and helpful infact I used reception more than once and found all staff to be polite and helpful. Our room was fine, certainly not classy but for the price you get a decent bed with a powerful shower and tea making facilities. We had drinks in the bar which I think has a nice friendly atmosphere. There is also outdoor space which I think is nice for hot weather. We used the transfer to the airport which also turned up on time. We think this place is perfect for location as there is plenty of bars and food places nearby. We think this hotel is such good value we have already booked again for september.
