Airless coffin of a room. No window, beyond roasting, very difficult to sleep in such temperatures.very very dark and dingy room. Broken lifts. Dated decor. Various problems with key card. Disinterested staff. Location good but would never stay again.

On looking at the outside appearence of this hotel you will wish you had booked somewhere else. However, dont be put off. Ok, the reception area is very dated but the staff were helpful and polite.
The budget internal room (no windows) was a suprise. Very clean and warm and loads of hot water with a great shower. The rooms trim was ok, with a dated TV but it worked ok!
I did not eat in this hotel, but cheap pints at the bar are from 4pm-8pm.
It's in a great spot if you fancy a few days shopping, Debenhams is just next door!

If your after a cheap and warm room for the night, its great!

Room Tip: Take note the budget rooms don't have windows! Higher up the building you go the less noise you get from the streets below!

We booked a stay at this hotel and were really looking forward to it after looking at the photos on the website...first impressions outside were 'Very dirty building and windows'.

On entering through the rotating door our faces dropped...the doors and framework were filthy...had to wait ages at receeption then had to pay £2.00 extra to pay by DEBIT card...a first for me and were not told about that when we booked.

We booked and paid for a superior roon, split level with lounge area...well...the ballustrading was broken with spindles missing...the bed was many many years old and at different levels...as I sat on it the leg fell off!! The bathroom was dreadful...generally clean but falling apart.

We tried to ring down to reception to report this but after having the phone constanlty ringing for 40 mins (it goes off after a few mins so we had to redial many times) we had both showered and were ready to go to the bar so we went and told reception in person...they just said there was nothing they could do. We said we couldnt stay in the room and after quite a while they decided they did have another room...a twin with the beds pushed together....not idea as it was our wedding anniversary. The room wasnt a superior with no seating area...told to go to reception in the morning to sort the difference, In the morning we were offered a 10% discount...certainly not the amount we had paid to upgrade to a superior room!

The second room we were given was worse than the first, the quilt didnt fit the bed.....the bathroom was apalling for a hotel...MASSIVE amounts of different coloured silicon along the edges and sides of the bath...the bathroom ceiling was falling down with big gaps around the outside, nearly all the gold coloured coating had come off the taps and the bath was badly stained.

Only one lift was operating and creaked like mad when used...very disconcerting..

The reception staff were overworked and didnt really care.

The whole hotel needs gutting and refurbishing.

To sum it up we were very disappointed...will never visit a Britannia hotel again...I emailed their head office with my feedback and didnt even hear back from them.

If you want a tip....go upmarket...stay in a nice clean Travelodge instead of this dump.

Room Tip: Book a Travelodge....far better value and cleaner

You get what you pay for. Great location but you need to wipe your feet on way out. Bedding not too bad but wouldn't chance the pillow. Take slippers carpets disgusting. Shower grim didn't risk it and fixtures cheap and nasty. Don't book windowless room no air and feels like a coffin. Reception staff surley and helpful

After reading the reviews on trip advisor I was not exactly looking forward to staying! While I agree with alot of the other reviewers, the hotel is not in the best health and could do with a refurbishment. Our shower was poor and we had no window but as somewhere to put your head down it was clean and the beds were ok, although I would not want to go and stay here for anything other than a lads weekend.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a window!
