Stopped here as was shopping & then seeing James Blunt in concert at the apollo 17th Apr. Wanted somewhere in the middle of the City. Great position but not as nice as expected.
Paid for an Executive double room as a treat. Although very spacious the bedroom furniture & tv were very outdated. The best thing was the carpet. At around 5pm I looked out of the window, could see people with umbrellas but couldn't tell how bad it was raining as the windows were dirty. Not very nice. On the good side the receptionist was polite & helpful as was the waiter in the restaurant. The food prices were very reasonable. Myself & my husband had the Gammon with pineapple & egg with chips. All very good. Reception & restaurant very clean. I guess the executive rate was for the extra space + the jacuzzi bath which was very nice after a days shopping. Bathroom was dated also & made from wall panels made to look like marble but this was very dark. One of the glasses still had toothpaste in it from last occupant, yuk.
Hotel in the right area as buses are very frequent down to the apollo but the hotel does need updating. Part of the wallpaper had just been roughly plastered over.

Room Tip: Stayed in room 254

We were booked into Room 252 but upon arrival in the room my girlfriend and I were not happy with the quality of the room. In the bathroom there was mould all around the shower/bath, the bath was cracked and leaking water and the bedroom area was full of dust making it appear that the room had not being cleaned for a few days.

Having decided we weren’t willing to stay in this room, we went down to reception and they moved us to room 352. However, this room was in a similar state with dust, half eaten food, a missing bath to shower knob and a bedside light that was coming away from its base.

In the morning prior to check out we spoke with the duty manager who was on. She didn’t seem to take our complaint seriously despite us showing her photographic evidence.

The hotel rooms are a bit tired and old fashioned. Beds are clean and comfy though. We were in room 272 at the front of the hotel. quite noisy outside in the streets
The location is the best thing about the hotel
There is an architectural turret thing outside of our room and its full or rubbish and water.... not a good look.
A fellow guest was in room 463 - a single room. Quite comfy but no window! Isn;t this just a cupboard.? Appauling and potentially scary and dangerous.

Awful, awful, awful!! The whole experience was awful. The staff were very rude upon check in and the hotel was filthy. Our room was so dirty I nearly cried and contemplated moving hotel. The musty smell was overpowering and the mould on the windowsill was green. We complained to staff and they moved us to a bigger and (relatively) cleaner room. I would not recommend this hotel to anybody, stay in the travelodge around the corner which is about the same price per night. The hotel interior was so outdated and in such bad condition. It was literally the worst hotel I have ever seen/stayed in.

Room Tip: Do not stay here, go to the travelodge around the corner.

The hotel looks very dated and worn. The entrance area is dirty & tatty. The carpets on the corridoors are very dirty and the whole place smells of smoke, even the non-smoking area.

The rooms are spacious enough, the bathrooms are OK and have baths, but the TV’s and the hairdriers are around 20 years old! They work, but are less than impressive.

The internet does not work in many of the rooms, which is very frustrating. The pool is not included and costs £4 per day. The pool looks dated and cramped.
The sink in our room was blocked and full of long hair- not a pleasant thing to see on your arrival. Although when we phoned housekeeping somebody came immediately and unblocked it.

The key card expires at 11am every day and you need to queue at reception to refresh it – not so much of a problem, if they actually told you that when you checked in, but pretty frustrating when you only find it out by accident on your 3rd day. So you get all the way up to your room, can’t get in and than have to come all the way back down to reception. We only found out by asking why it kept happening – nobody offered us this useful piece of information.

Having said all this, considering the amount of complaints the front desk must have to deal with, they were cheerful, friendly and helpful.

Location wise it is excellent, just behind Debenhams and Piccadilly. And it is reasonably-priced, even if it does resemble a hostel!

Room Tip: Make sure you insist on having internet access, otherwise you will be stuck in a corner room where i...

Arrived and not impressed when there are three people in the 'check-in' queue and five people in the 'complaints' queue! Receptionist was desperately trying to deal with both and failing to get her colleagues to assist, they clearly did't want to assist her!

Room very basic, not all the lights worked, bathroom panel was hanging off and similar to a previous review, I quickly turned the air conditioning off when the air coming through was clearly not fresh!

Very central and probably a very nice hotel a few decades ago but for the money there are many more hotels who could provide a much better service and accommodation. Avoid this hotel unless your only other choice is a shop doorway!
