Stayed at the Britannia luckily just for one night. First sight of the hotel is pleasant at best rooms are satisfactory. After checking in the hotel we walked into Manchester to do some Christmas shopping, when we returned to the room the window was wide open and the room was freezing so we assumed the window was broken. However, when checking our bags we realised that all of our money had been stolen from our purses in the hotel! Staff were very manipulating and made us feel like liars, once the police where called it became apparent that someone had entered our hotel room half an hour before we returned to the hotel using the key card the hotel provided. The manager told us the only person with access to our room was us!! Again making us feel like lairs. The hotel has no CCTV on the corridors apparently for 'guest privacy'. The police man was very kind and helpful but told us this is not a one off for this hotel! Please do not stay here or if you do please keep your money with you at all times it is not safe to keep it in a purse in a bag!

Stayed in this hotel last night, drove down to Manchester for a random night out from Glasgow and just booked this hotel because of the price. The hotel is pretty outdated but for £35 a night what else do you expect? The location is very good the city center is only 0.5 miles away. I have no complaints other than there is no ceiling lights - Which is very bizarre, there is only 2 lamps... My friend had a smaller room and his was the same.

Room Tip: Get ceiling lights

This hotel is in a brilliant location for the visitor to Manchester and based in a wonderful old building. The staff were all very helpful and friendly but sadly this old girl needs a facelift. Our small room at the top had a wonderful view over the rooftops but damp stains on the curtains, worn out carpets and a bathroom in need of modernisation. The included breakfast was adequate and hot although the small basement room was gloomy and crowded and we had to queue for some hot items. Don't be late for breakfast as at dead on 10.00 o'clock everything disappeared as if by magic. Overall cheap and cheerful but don't expect too much.

Have just returned home after spending Christmas at the Britannia Manchester. I cannot believe the negative reviews. My husband, myself and four relatives had a fantastic time and cannot praise the hotel staff enough. They were all very friendly and helpful and went out of their way to ensure we had a good time. There was loads of food, all cooked well and apart from roast potatoes every day there was plenty of variety. We had wine every night at dinner, crackers, hats ,boxes of fudge and shortbread, even a minature vodka or brandy on Christmas day all included in the price. We paid £20 each extra for executive rooms which were for four nights. The beds were clean and we had mountains of clean towels. It was the first time our relatives had been away at Christmas and they were very impressed and will come with us again next year. Well done Britannia.

i booked this hotel through late rooms, then phoned the hotel to ask if it was possible for a late check out as i was traveling late and told him when i would be staying. when i arrived at the hotel they had no confirmation of my booking! i showed them the confirmation email of late rooms and they then told me that they had no rooms left. The staff where so rude and didn't even apologise. The man behind the counter even seemed quite smug about this whole situation. it was a complete disaster and we had nowhere to go with our luggage at 12pm!

Room Tip: would not recommend.

Bought a groupon voucher to treat my mum to afternoon tea, god knows how I would feel if it had been full price! Firstly the whole decor of the place is just awful, as if it was stuck in a time warp it was desperately trying to get out by introducing an area of red and black decor that didn't fit with the rest of it. We were not given an option of sandwiches but later overheard the next table being given a choice. The sandwiches we had looked like they'd had the crusts ripped off them rather than cut - there was tuna and that plastic reformed ham and chicken slices the tier of sandwiches were garnished with bug chunks of cucumber and some scraps of lettuce about to turn brown. The cakes were like mini frozen Iceland ones - they were as actually ok but would have expected hone made. The scones were just ok. The Pot of tea we had did not even contain boiling water just lukewarm. It was like the hotel was playing at as afternoon tea - just dire :(
