We stayed here over valentines last minute and it was very good. The rooms were great size, the water was hot and the beds were comfy. We paid £80 for 2 nights for 2 people which is good value (pricey for us as students but fair!)
A good place to stay if you're new to the city

Reception area was ok staff pleasant. Breakfast was ok. The staff were ok too. A lot pf foreign staff there. Couldnt quite understand them. Language barrier difficult. Exterior of hotel looks grand. Much to say about the rooms. Very old slow lift. Went to our room. Carpet was old and decrepid. Stains galore. Could join the dots in it. Tv on a very low stand. Not enough tea and coffee facilities. Bathroom was clean and spacious. No window in the rooms. Im sure this shouldnt be allowed on a health and safety note. With fires. Only a roof glass with a cord to open a flap for air. But noise was awful was right by extractor fans. Bloody noisy that was in an alcove in bejind a curtain. Not enough sockets in the room only for what was provided in the rooms i e lamps if needed to charge phone had to switch lamp off. Bed was uncomfertable sheet dodnt fit. Pillows were flat. Cluldnt get intp bed properly. It was right up agaonst a radiator dont like that. Went fpr meal in china town. Came back and someone had been in our room. Had a piss in the toilet left it there and haor wax was left by the sink and a room key on the bed. Qe only had one card and our disnt work as a new one was activated for someone els is pleasure. And left by our bags which had personal belongings. Was noy happy with this. Four weeks has been since and heard nothing back of our complaint. Its very outdated the rooms and coridors and lifts.

Don't ever stay here. The room was dirty, grim, depressing and such a disappointment. No soundproofing whatsoever and such an old, grubby, uncomfortable mattress that I won't feel clean for weeks! Horrific - you couldn't pay me to go back there!

Booked an executive double rather than the standard..... What a joke! To say the nice decor and chandelier in reception lull you into a false sense of security is a serious understatement! Alarm bells first rang when we were told to take the lift to 6th floor, but there were only buttons to 5 floors. All became clear when we eventually found the grotty tight staircase from the back of the 5th floor and struggled up with our suitcases up into the stale air and flickering lights of a tired looking corridor with chipped paintwork and noisy ventilation. On entering the room it looked like something from Faulty Towers with fake rustic furniture and an old TV on such a low stand out of view from the bed that they may as well have put it on the floor. The main problem with the room was the non existent sound separation from the adjacent room or corridor. The clarity with which we could hear the couple next door coughing, whispering, talking and unfortunately fornicating was truly astounding! When they walked across their bedroom our floor moved, and when they 'tested' their bed ours moved along with it!! There were people running and shouting in the corridor slamming doors at all hours and just when it was quiet enough to consider sleeping (4am) the pipes started clanking and the radiator was making a trickling noise right next to the bed. Aside from this the mattress was lumpy with springs that sporadically twanged in your back, there was a ripped hole in the pillow case and the kettle was so slow we could have boiled water quicker blowing it with a hairdryer! The shower suddenly scalded you from time to time and there were only 2 tea bags.... Truly an experience to be missed!!!

i found booking the room over the phone was perfect couldnt fault the customer service of the man that served me.

when we got there it looked very clean and welcoming,, we qued for a few moments as it was busy the time we arrived,, we were appolgised to as we waited but we were just handed our key after there was a very clear lack of communication,, we were not told what floor or where to go like other places ive stayed,, and we were not wished a good stay as we walked away.

we got to our floor and go to the room and we were pleasently surprised at the size of the whole room! we booked a 3 person room and it was more hen big enough for all of us with out feeling cramped.

the facitlies were basic,, old facilites and old tv and electricals.

we called for room service as we needed a few glasses and a bottle opener and we were passed to the bar where no one picked up rand for about 3 mins.
we rang again and said could we have 3 glasses and a bottle opener once again we were passed to the bar NO ANSWER
i then called back a third time when i said weve been passed to the bar theres no anser,,, i was greated with a HUFF! and the ladys voice became fustrated and bored and no enthusasim to want to help.
she said fine ok and put the phone down... they glasses and opener NEVER ARRIVED!!

we found the staff as whole very rude and unwelcoming! when we walked past any we werent greated with a smile or polite hello,, it was just a blank glare and a sour look.

in the morning we wanted to order room service,, the menu says 11am,, recpetion told us 1pm and the resteraunt told us 3pm and then changed it to no we wont be doing it today.

i come from a customer service background and i can 100% say we will not be returning due to the sheer rudeness we recieved.

1 good point the beds are extremley comfy!
