Britannia Manchester Hotel

This hotel has seen better days but it's lovely, it's welcoming, was ideal for the 2 days that I spent there, it's in a prime spot in Manchester. The staff are lovely, very helpful and accommodating. The food was hot and tasty, and a buffet style so you could have as much or as little as you wanted. Would go back to this hotel for short stays.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a window, if one isn't available, you will need to ask for a fan

Right ok, ermm the location was ideal, very convinient and easy to find when stumbling home at 4am after a couple of rose wines and a burger king feast. Cleanliness is a dubious shout for me, ceilen was a tad bit damp, in strange places, like a spider had wriggled to the middle of the ceilen had a bath then scuttled off. Couple of paint jobs and re-wallpapering required but im not going to shout loud about this as it had no direct impact on how I went about my business. Service was mixed, a bit like the languages they attempted to speak to you in, they were friendly enough and gave me and my friend some toilet roll at 345am, I wont go in to the details of this requirement. The night porters were a bit chewy and gave us hassle for being 'disruptive', I think its because we were dancing to Steps-5,6,7,8 whilst drinking Asda's own label amaretto. The price of the hotel was very wallet-friendly and even included food. This is where the establishment lets itself down... The chef skips in and out of his quarters eating food whilst bringing trays of overcooked, stale, flavourless and dull food. He has lovely rosey cheeks and a ripe little smile on his face but I feel his Zach Dingle-like sideburns need shaving off or covering up whilst he sorts the grub out as I found a hair in my rice, I didnt do a DNA test but it looked like it belonged to him. The variation of food didnt variate and it was the same drab night after night. Im not mocking the chefs ability to do his job im mearly saying id rather eat a bag of stag beatles. There wasnt a bar in the food area to use, you got a shot glass to use for water out of the dispenser after the 7 minute queue as the waters the only natural thing at the buffet, hence the queue, supply and demand, I get it. Back to the room, boiling hot, couldnt breathe on a night, window opened an inch but was soon closed when we saw a blood and shame filled condom on the ledge. He must of hammered the poor lass it was full to brim. The hotel is nice along with location and price but for the love of God go have your dinner at Greggs. Cheers.

This hotel is in need of a refurb. It's a grand old place, the carpets are very dated and the furnishings in the rooms have seen better days. Having said that you get good deals so it's cheap and the location is perfect. The staff are friendly and the bar prices are really cheap. My suite room had jets in the bath which was nice. Small windows that didn't open more than a couple of inches and a useless cooler in the room made for a very hot and stuffy atmosphere but the hotel did provide a fan when asked which helped. I'd definitely avoid this hotel in a heatwave but overall it's good if you're not expecting the Ritz. Breakfast good for a buffet standard.

Went with majestic for the coronation st tour witch was brilliant but the hotel was so hot and uncomfortable it ruined the experience we managed to open the window a bit but the heat in the room was awful we asked for a fan but we're told they had run out as everyone wanted one should that have told them they needed to get more or don't they care what should have been a great experience was spoiled by not getting any sleep I don't think majestic should use this hotel anymore as it is ruining what could be a great tour as majestic tours usually are we would never stay here again

Spent a night in the Britannia hotel manchester after reading review I was a little worried but after staying there wonder if we were at same hotel. Yes it's a little jaded around the edges but a beautiful building. The staff were smartly dressed and polite, we had two rooms which were spacious and very clean. Yes there was a little noise outside at night but your in the city centre, someone said windows were dirty they were but you are in the city centre not a lot to look at and they are going to get dirty. Breakfast was hot, plenty of choice fresh. The hotel is like a grand old lady a little frayed around the edges but still splendid and beautiful. If you want faceless chain hotels where you don't know one from the offer don't stay here, if you want charm and character and a great city central location then stay at the Britannia.

Myself and my wife stayed here prior to taking an early morning flight from Manchester airport. The location was great, the exterior was good; this is all that was positive about our stay.

Firstly you arrive at the grand front entrance and find a bunch of steps, there's no bellboy, appears to be no way around so you have to drag your suitcase up a flight of stairs. When we go to check in we are served by a trainee who was unsure of herself (ok everyone has to learn) but the girl who was training her wasn't helping her at all meaning that she looked out of her depth.

The room itself (419) was of quite poor quality. It was large but there was a massive watermark once roof where something had obviously overflowed, the carpet was worn out, the bathroom door had a 1cm gap at the top of it and there was only one bedside table. These are the small inconveniences compared to how hot the room was. We work in the middle east and can put up with heat but the room was so hot that it was very difficult to sleep and gave it up as a bad job at 5am.

When we went to check out there was noone on reception, when we gained someone's attention he just took the card in, he might as well have told us to go to hell with the way in which he delt with us.

This hotel is definitely worth a miss.
