We decided to go to Manchester for my birthday, good idea. Staying at this hotel was a disaster. Unfortunately there was nothing even close to medico. The room was dirty, you could hardily see out of the windows. The bath room tiles were chipped so black mould was around the shower area. The basin was chipped, wall paper torn, every thing is extremely tired. We were suppose to have been upgraded I'd hate to have seen the standard room.

We were kept up all night as there was a fight in the next door room, the people were thrown out. The included dinner was a self service of dried out food. The whole experience was awful. We sent in complaints 3 weeks ago and no one has come back to us. If you like student digs you’ll love this place. If you have booked please cancel it go to Manchester but don't go to this hotel. It is easily the worse city break we have ever had.

This hotel is extremely poor, and customer services simply do not care. 1 star is 1 to many

the rooms have paperthin walls. i was treated to my neighbours coming home at 1am, talking and other things for an hour then after a couple hours sleep i got the joy of the sound of their wake up call at 7am and could here every step taken on very squeaky floors in surrounding rooms, flushing toilets, full conversations, hairdryers, even zips on bags being unzipped!!

when i complained at reception i was met with a very unfriendly duty manager who wouldnt let me speak to the manager and told me to email her. when i phoned the hotel there and then i spoke to the manager from the reception area who was just through the door but wouldnt come out. she eventually came out after 20mins and told me that as i hadnt complained earlier there was nothing she could do!!

she told me i would get a call to let me know if she was going to compensate us in some way but after 3 weeks, 2 emails and calls without a response i eventually got a half hearted email saying all she could offer was another night in the hotel. who wants to go back for another night of no sleep!!!

do not stay here if you want any sleep or treated with an ounce of good customer service because you wont get it here!!

Went here for a trip away with all the girls. Perfect location. Rooms we're fine. Hotel itself was nice, not a five star by any means but did the trick! Very central!

i stayed here for 10 days in june 2010 and at the start of the stay 1 lift was out of order for three days while it was getting fixed. then 7 days into my stay both the lifts were out of order and the hotel wouldn't tell anybody about the service lift. and that broke down for a while on day 7 of my stay. this DIDN'T help the very elderly people staying on the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th floor of the hotel. because there was a lot of people staying in this hotel going to the Oddfellows conference we were blamed for the lifts breaking down and being over-filled. i got stuck in 1 lift with 5 people who weren't overloading the lift and because the reception didn't know what the bell for the lift was they didn't do anything about it and couldn't even find the external key for the lift. i was lucky to be in the lift along with my dad at the restaurant level where it got stuck and he managed to get the door open for us because the staff were useless, they don't even speak english so they don't even understand you.

in Jenny's restuarant where you eat breakfast and dinner they served gammon EVERY night in there because they kept on running out of everything first. For the desserts there was always gateux every night and until they were gone and most people had eaten their dinner and left they then brought the apple pies out.

booked a single room for 3 nights - received what must have been the worst room in the place - very narrow bed with 1 (!) very thin pillow and dirty windows. The rooms on the ground floor are directly over a nightclub so if you are in Manch to party probably no big deal. However if there is any chance you may want to sleep on a Saturday night make sure you don't get a ground floor room (my room had vibrating bed and rattling windows 'til 3am).
As seems to be usual for UK hotels the Brittania seems to be almost entirely staffed by non-Brits so communication is sometimes difficult though they are helpful(the one Mancunian employee I met was probably the rudest person I have ever encountered in a tourist hotel!)

I arrived on the off chance in the hope of a room, and as i have problems with steps and walking too far i pressed the bell to alert the concierge.

I waited. and waited. and waited. Pressed the bell again. No response. After 10 minutes i decided to ring the hotel by phone. I was directed to the entrance of the nightclub for a lift upstairs, then had to go through all kinds of corridors accompanied by a huffing and puffing concierge.

Their disabled access rooms means they have handles on the bath.

I decided to go for a walk the next morning and asked someone to let me out via the lift and she tried to persuade me to go down the stairs near to Jenny's restaurant. I'm not too sure which part of 'i can't use stairs' she didn't quite understand, and it was only after i nearly fell down them did she take me to the lift and unlock the nightclub doors.
