Strangely, considering that the room had clearly been refurbished quite recently, it had a very dated feel to it. Nevertheless, the room was large, the bed extremely comfortable and the hotel surprisingly quiet considering its location. The bathroom was adequate though cheaply fitted, as others have observed.
The breakfast was reasonably good though I doubt that I would have been too impressed if I'd paid the £15 per person charge for it - I had an inclusive rate.
Service was very good at both reception and the bar and the room was very clean. One minor niggle was that the heating seemed to do anything but heat the room. Fortunately, it wasn't that cold most of the time although it did feel a bit chilly when I woke up in the morning.
The hotel advertises free high speed internet access. Technically, I suppose, they are correct but the free access is only available in the lobby and bar, not in the bedrooms. They wanted another £15 a day for that; though I was offered it for £10 a day if I paid when I checked in. I find it hard to believe that a 4* hotel in 2014 is still stuck in the 'information highway' of the 1990s and charging extra for internet access to rooms. You might accept that sort of thing in the no-frills hotels but not a city centre 4*.More
