“Fabulous Girls Night In!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 April 2012

I booked a girls night in package here for myself and a friend in January. It was really good value and included dinner, spa treatments and breakfast. The room was great; perfectly clean, great toiletries and we got a free bottle of wine with the package! The spa again we couldn't fault. Fabulous treatments, just what we wanted. We had a few pre dinner cocktails at the bar and then onto dinner in the restaurant which I think has been newly revamped and is now a bar and grill. Either way the food was fab and the service friendly! We had requested breakfast in bed, which on our package was at no extra charge. It was a continental breakfast that came in a hamper and was huge! Cereal, juice, fruit salad, pastries, jams... I would really recommend the hotel, particularly on this package which is excellent value!

Good genuine, friendly welcome from helpful local staff, no issue at all with me changing rooms (and then seeing the funnyside when I changed back to the original!), The bar is excellent, serving cracking cocktails and a range of beers, and the breakfast range, and qualiry of ingredients is the best I have experienced for this price bracket of hotel. Lastly, the hotel, while it doesnt look like much from the outside, has a nice boutique feel to it inside, and not the tired generic blandness that get with other hotel chains. Love Manchester and this is the place to stay.

Room Tip: Just ask the staff about the room choices when you arrive, and dont worry about changing - they are...

Have stayed at the Liverpool and Birmingham Mal's before and the Manchester Mal lived up to expectations! Booked a standard twin direct through Mal as a present for my mum for Mother's Day they had some great easter deals at the time of booking. We were coming by train and the hotel is in an excellent location only a couple of minutes walk from Picadilly Station. We arrived early and only wanted to leave our bags, but Rosie on reception was lovely, a fantastic welcome and told us our room was ready and we could check in. I had only booked a standard twin, but i'm sure we got an upgraded room (certainly a newly refurbished room, no sign of the red and black here!) It was very plush in black and grey, lovely black velvet throws and cushions, big padded head board and lovely patterned wallpaper above the bed. A very big room with a sofa and large flat screen tv, excellent bathroom with fantastic power shower over the bath. It was located on the 5th floor and was on the back of the hotel so we had no problem with noise, not even from doors slamming inside, must have good sound proofing well done! Very clean as well. Breakfast in the morning was included in our rate. Service was excellent, had the eggs benedict (getting a bit of a habit of mine at Mal's!) Its was lovely, as were the yoghurt and fruit available, croissants and pastries were lovely and fresh and warm! It was such a shame we only booked one night as we were at a concert at the MEN, will stay longer next time! Thank you Mal for another excellent stay - can't fault you! All the staff were frienldly and helpful well done!

Room Tip: Ask for room high up and on the back for a lovely quiet nights sleep!

Booked DBB on a whim for an Easter treat. Got upgraded to superior exec on arrival and this meant more floor space and a gorgeous monsoon shower which was heavenly!
Food was excellent - dinner and breakfast - staff are outstanding and really nothing was too much trouble. Every part of this visit was perfect and smoothly executed from booking (through the mal phone line) to dinner to room service. Unrushed and friendly service at every level which I think is what has made the stay stand out from other hotels and chains. I love the informal atmosphere and attention to detail. Knowledgeable staff in the restaurant and bar - and especially good cocktails mixed on request if you want something that isn't on their cocktail menu. We only live 10 minutes away from this hotel but feel like we stepped into another world for the past 24 hours - away from it all yet in the heart of the city.

I live close to Manchester and have stayed in pretty much all the 4 and 5* hotels in town. I have visited Malmaison twice. The Malmaison is perfect for visitors, as it's literally 30 seconds from Manchester Piccadilly train station. It's a good 4* with what I would describe a moulin rouge inspired decor (all dark reds, blacks, whites). The restaurant is decent, nothing spectacular, but nice food. Rooms can be small and the nature of the decor/design is dark and moody. The baths are nice and big, the bed comfy, although some TVs are located in strage areas (eg. not visible properly from bed/chair).
I had an awful 'view' on one trip, the back of a building, pipes etc. but you can't get that many rooms with a good view due to the location (it backs onto a disused building). Overall, it can be expensive for what you get, I wouldn't want to pay more than £100 really, as you can often get great rates at Lowry, which is a better hotel (5*). I know Mal is 4*, but to compete with a 5* hotel, it needs good pricing. Overall, a nice 4* a good one to take the girlfriend too, expect smallish rooms but nice, unusual decor and a good location for public transport.

Nice hotel built in an old warehouse (I think). Really creative design for restaurant and hotel rooms. I was upgraded to a higher class, giving me the pleasure of a spacy room, no noice from the neighbours and a big bed. Nice bathroom, spacy and hot (finally)

Dear Guest,
Thank you very much for taking the time to review our hotel. I’m so glad the design was to your taste. The hotel is actually an old dolls hospital and before that a cotton spinning warehouse, so it has a rich history. I’d be delighted to see you again soon.
Kind regards,
