Perfect hotel for a romantic getaway. Opposite Picadilly Station, with NCP car parking nearby but it was quite pricey, ideal for visting shops, bars and restaurants in the city. We stayed on an Eats/Sleeps/Drinks deal, and was great value for money. We had dinner in the Brasserie which was great, nice romantic surroundings and perfect food. The bar was nice too. The room was very chic, plush furnishings, clever accent lighting, stylish furniture and decor with a fabulous bathroom with thick white fluffy towels. One of the most comfrtable beds I've come across in a hotel. Overall a great stay, nice hotel, nice attentive staff, a perfect getaway. Would definately recommend for couples visiting Manchester city centre looking for a sylish place to stay.

We're big fans of Malmaison hotels but have to say was dissapointed on this visit. The first room we were checked into was filthy, extremley dusty, stains on bed throw, dirty marks on surfaces, traces of smashed glass on the floor and general damage throughout the room. We complained to reception and they moved us immediatley to an upgraded room.
This room was much better but to be honest the upgraded room is really of the class I would expect for a standard room for a hotel of this quality and the bed was seriously hard and very uncomfortable!
We booked on a dinner inclusive deal and although the service and quality of food was excellent the choice is very limited and by the time you add the side orders and extras it really wasnt the great deal they promised.
I would go back purley for the ambience, location and service but I would strongly reccommend that if you are considering staying here you pay for a room upgrade or you may be left feeling a bit dissapointed. And a note to the hotel managment team - carry out your Spring clean now!

We stayed at the Mal for 2 nights. There were some small problems on arrival, in that rooms were a bit noisy with poorly closing windows, but the staff were excellent,.They were very genuinely friendly, patient and moved us twice without any fuss and even provided a complementary drink for the trouble.

All rooms were very well provdied and comfortable and we would have taken any of them apart from the noise issue. The final room was great and a good nights sleep !!!! .

The breakfast and dinner were excellent and worth trying even if you are not staying !

The hotel is very well located to access and to walk into Manchester shops and nighlife. I does have its own style - dark and red ! - and they could perhaps let some more light in here and there !! but overall I would definately stay there again !

All hotels have some problems friom time to time and the way the staff managed this and served us was exemplary.

The Malmaison is right opposite Manchester picadilly station so very convenient. Its quite a mixed bag of a hotel and it really does depend on whether its your personal taste or not. There were some things I really liked about it and some things it can definitely improve on.

On arrival the first impression is that you've stepped into a teenage vampire movie. Its black, red, velvet everywhere, flaming candles going up the stairs and its very dark. If you are 14 and into the vampire genre you would love it, if you are a business traveller and not a teenager you may find it trying too hard and dare I say it, a bit old fashioned in terms of what it thinks is glamorous. throughout the hotel are marketing materials telling you how 'sexy' the hotel is and telling you to register online your 'secrets'. Again, all a bit trying too hard. My room was small, with a view of a condemned building, hardly any wardrobe space and a lot of black and red furniture. On the positive side it was very well equipped with gadgets. I had previously stayed at the city inn across the road and actually thought the rooms there were nicer. The whole' sexy bottle of red wine' on the bedside table was becoming a bit tiresome by this point.

Breakfast excellent. Dinner very good I really like the restaurant, slightly bizarre service at times e.g bringing you a plate of cheese they chose (without asking what cheese you like) rather than letting you choose from the very good cheese trolley as they 'couldn't get the trolley up the step' . Tables slightly too close together.

Overall, the hotel grew on me whilst I was there but I think there are other hotels in the area giving better rooms and on a more grown up basis. If the malmaison stopped trying too hard to be 'sexy' , blew out the flaming torches and took the red wine off the bedside tablesit may actually be a more relaxed place to stay.

would I stay there again? I'd prefer to stay at the city inn, but I'd go to the malmaison for dinner.

We stayed at the Mal, Manchester for one night for the purpose of a night away and to visit the Manchester Christmas Markets

I booked the 'Eats Sleeps' package and chose to pay a little extra for a suite. On the morning before our arrival I telephoned Central Reservations and asked if we could have a free upgrade and were told we could be upgraded to one of their Cinema Suites (we had Room 138) ...... what can I say but WOW, WOW, WOW !! The room was fantastic - such a novelty to have curtains that you open by a switch! and a massive projector screen with sound system

We ate dinner in the restaurant in the evening and the food was fantastic; we followed this with a cocktail in the bar

From check in to check out all the staff were fantastic and so friendly

Certainly not a cheap night away but well worth it. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and we hope to return soon

Set in the award-winning Malmaison Hotel minutes from Piccadilly station, Smoak is total indulgence for the senses. The amazing aroma of nation's finest oak-smoked steaks and fresh fish, served to a pewter counter or cosy booth. Imagine great imported beers, cocktails and bubbly served from an unusual sunken bar, with highly skilled mixologists serving you while you stay seated. Picture a stylish relaxed but chic interior a mix of booths, banquettes and counter stools. Come lunchtime and it's locally sourced bread, generously filled sandwiches and salads or full blown grill dining for the more adventurous lunchtime escapee. Come sundown the mood changes and we turn the aromas up to eleven. The cocktails flow, the steaks sizzle, the music turns up and the night begins.
