“A Good City Hotel.”
Reviewed 24 January 2011

We said at the Malmaison, Manchester in a large group for a family party taking place in the city.

The receiption was professional and allowed us to check in early, the room was compact ! but clean and attractive the only downside was the bathroom was a little small you could have two people brushing there teeth at the same time !!!!

The breakfast was execllent amongst the best I have had in hotel with yet again great service considering the number of guest having breakfast.

The hotel is in a great spot for sightseeing etc and was good value for money. The room was nice, the bed a bit hard but we slept ok, the pillows needed a bit more support as very floppy. Bedclothes clean, duvet clean but a bit hot. Nice complimentary toiletries, large head on shower, towels nice and fluffy and didn't smell when wet like most hotel towels. Tea and coffee making facilities, iron, and hair dryer. Only down points was no shaving mirror in the bathroom for my husband, the wardrobe doors were very noisy, a bit of noise from neighbouring bedrooms, but not enough to worry about. The net curtain was in holes. Bathroom on the small side but adequate. The staff are very friendly and accomodating. We had breakfast which was good value for money, and sunday lunch which was also good. Would recommend and would stay again.

We stayed in the cinema "suite" it was an expensive treat we thought, but were left feel ripped off, the room was okay, but it was far from a suite, the quality of the screen was on the poor side, the surround sound was not even set up properly, my partner had to make adjustments. We we told as we were taken to the cinema suite, that we had to go and buy our own movies to watch, this is misleading, if your paying ove £400 for a nights stay you expect a movie or 2. The Hotel overall has a very dark feel, and feels small. Would not bother again.

Perfect hotel for a romantic getaway. Opposite Picadilly Station, with NCP car parking nearby but it was quite pricey, ideal for visting shops, bars and restaurants in the city. We stayed on an Eats/Sleeps/Drinks deal, and was great value for money. We had dinner in the Brasserie which was great, nice romantic surroundings and perfect food. The bar was nice too. The room was very chic, plush furnishings, clever accent lighting, stylish furniture and decor with a fabulous bathroom with thick white fluffy towels. One of the most comfrtable beds I've come across in a hotel. Overall a great stay, nice hotel, nice attentive staff, a perfect getaway. Would definately recommend for couples visiting Manchester city centre looking for a sylish place to stay.

We're big fans of Malmaison hotels but have to say was dissapointed on this visit. The first room we were checked into was filthy, extremley dusty, stains on bed throw, dirty marks on surfaces, traces of smashed glass on the floor and general damage throughout the room. We complained to reception and they moved us immediatley to an upgraded room.
This room was much better but to be honest the upgraded room is really of the class I would expect for a standard room for a hotel of this quality and the bed was seriously hard and very uncomfortable!
We booked on a dinner inclusive deal and although the service and quality of food was excellent the choice is very limited and by the time you add the side orders and extras it really wasnt the great deal they promised.
I would go back purley for the ambience, location and service but I would strongly reccommend that if you are considering staying here you pay for a room upgrade or you may be left feeling a bit dissapointed. And a note to the hotel managment team - carry out your Spring clean now!

Mal Manchester: In the home of the beautiful game you're about to turn Moulin Rouge. A short trundle for wheel-based luggage from Piccadilly Station and you're at the Mal - somewhere in the mists between Paris and the 24-hour party city. You cross the chessboard reception and suddenly you're a king for the knight. It's your move. Smoak Bar and Grill at Mal Manchester: A grill room and bar quite unlike anything Manchester has ever before seen. Set in the award-winning Malmaison Hotel minutes from Piccadilly station, Smoak is total indulgence for the senses. The amazing aroma of nation's finest oak-smoked steaks and fresh fish, served to a pewter counter or cosy booth. Imagine great imported beers, cocktails and bubbly served from an unusual sunken bar, with highly skilled mixologists serving you while you stay seated. Picture a stylish relaxed but chic interior a mix of booths, banquettes and counter stools. Come lunchtime and it's locally sourced bread, generously filled sandwiches and salads or full blown grill dining for the more adventurous lunchtime escapee. Come sundown the mood changes and we turn the aromas up to eleven. The cocktails flow, the steaks sizzle, the music turns up and the night begins.
