“Our Best Value-For-Money Dining Experience in Manchester”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 November 2012 via mobile

Attractive from the street, in the middle of Manchester, we were attracted by the wide-ranging menu.

In this case we were right to judge this book by its cover.

The interior is nicely themed and there is a classic movie playing against the big wall at the rear.

The service is excellent, and we enjoyed both the Tapas menu and the mains.

We had the classic nachos (twice), thai fish cakes, and houmus as Tapas.

Our mains were the scallop and avocado salad, and the oddly named Bang Bang Chicken.

Both dishes were extremely nice.

We will most definitely be back.

A very refreshing plus for us was the absence of the Yobbo element which wears thin pretty quickly here.

“Very enjoyable”

Ill get the 'cons' out of the way. The giant profiterole was terrible. Dry and tasteless.

Everything else was fantastic. The service, the atmosphere, the decor, the attention to detail, the german lager, the english cocktails, the menu, the food.

My partner and I spent late afternoon here drinking german lager. She then spotted the cocktail menu which is the main attraction here. Service was polite and friendly but laid back.

We enjoyed it so much we stayed for tea. Chicken wings starter is mandatory...they are amazing. A small but enticing menu and the quality of the food matches the standard of everything else.

This is a place where you can and should spend many hours soaking up the atmosphere and enjoying the best food and drink. Will visit again if we find ourselves over on the wrong side of the penines.

“High quality establishment”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 November 2012

I gathered my female colleagues at The Alchemist, New York Street, for a Friday night catch up over dinner. Arriving at 6.30pm the bar was at least 5 people deep! Thankfully the layout of the venue means that diners are ever so slightly distanced from the throng at the bar, but still close enough to soak up the energy.

I returned to The Alchemist the following Sunday for brunch. It was nice to experience it at a quieter time of day.

The following Saturday I found myself back there for breakfast!

Across these experiences, the quality of the food was excellent, even my latte was noticeably high quality. The service is good, nothing short of what I expect (although the Saturday morning waitress was rather dour), staff on the whole were appropriately attentive.

The decor is lovely, it attracts you from the outside. Mixed seating levels and wood and leather furnishings makes the dining area a tad more interesting as does the projection of classic black and white films onto the back wall.

I will definitely recommend.

I'm really pleased this has opened as the original Alchemist bar in Spinningfields is just too small!

“New York St”

We really like the original Alchemist and dropped in here for a nightcap yesterday. Big comfy settees, good background music and nice atmosphere. My bourbon was no problem, but I didn't expect this -
' ..and a large glass of Pinot Noir' met by blank look
' ... You know , pinot noir'
' we have pinot grigio'
' that'd be a white wine, pinot noir is a red'
' err, we have rose'
' ok, do you have a Merlot?' And that was quite nice, but perhaps some training is needed.
