“A wonderful restaurant in central Manchester”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 January 2013

We had lunch at 1847, and were very impressed by the quality of the food, the variety of the menu and the friendliness of the owner, Damien.
We would strongly recommend this restaurant to veggies and non-veggies.

“Excellent city centre vegetarian restaurant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 January 2013

Named after the year of the foundation of the Vegetarian Society right here in Manchester in 1847 (it's still based in Altrincham), this is an excellent veggie restaurant, right in the centre of town and seconds away from the Manchester Art Gallery on Mosley Street. I've been here for a three course lunch a couple of times, the first a research trip on my own, and the second taking along friends, veggie and non-veggie. We all very much enjoyed the excellent food, the attentive service, and the cosy relaxing space of the restaurant.

The menu is refreshingly uncomplicated and at the same time imaginative. Their twist on a northern classic for example, fish, chips and mushy peas, or in this case battered halloumi, chips in skins cooked to perfection, mushy peas, leaves, and home-made tartare sauce is absolutely delicious, and really must be experienced by veggies and omnivores alike. Starters and desserts were equally delicious, and well prepared and presented. We all very much enjoyed the cosy lunchtime atmosphere, the excellent and very friendly service front of house, and took our time over an extended and very pleasurable Saturday lunch. I very much look forward to returning, as well as introducing friends and family to this much needed and very welcome vegetarian restaurant right in the centre of Manchester. Recommended!

“Attentive service and good vegetarian food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 January 2013 via mobile

It is good to have a good vegetarian restaurant in the city centre. The food is varied and tasty with interesting combinations and ideas . The service is very good with one person doing front of house but he is very efficient . The pricing structure is straightforward with starters at £5, mains all at £11 and puddings at £5 including the cheese boars which was the best I have had for a while. The portions were good maybe could have been a bit more on the pasta dish - I never understand why pasta is a smaller portion!

“Best vegetarian restaurant ever!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 January 2013

I have eaten here several times and have been delighted every time. It's a great place to take visitors. I'm not a vegetarian myself, but the menu is fantastic - and since I'm nearly always going out with at least a couple of vegetarians, one has no worries about their choice being limited. Love the relaxed and civilised atmosphere, excellent but not overbearing service, and exquisitely imaginative cuisine. Top notch!

“Excellent Vegan Food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 January 2013

Visited 1847 on Friday 18th January as part of a visit to Manchester. The place itself is very well furnished and decorated, not your usual vegetarian restaurant decor at all, what you would expect for city centre Manchester. The service was excellent by a very pleasant chap and the menu had a good choice for vegans like myself. I had beetroot carpaccio, followed by mushroom and potato pie and then a delicious chocolate tart served with soya cream. My husband had a potato cake dish, followed by a pasta dish with asparagus and served with a poached egg, and finished with apple tarte tatin served with custard. The chap serving us even recommended an excellent bar to visit afterwards which was nice. All in all we will revisit 1847 on our next trip to Manchester.
