I Travel frequently to Manchester, using a different hotel every time looking for the perfect one! Marriott location is good, within walking distance from center as well as university and convention center. The staff are absolutely delightfully and helpful at the reception. My only problem is that I stayed in suite 436, the walls were very thin, I could hear all the conversation next door as well as the tv shows they were watching!! I was unlucky that my neighbors were inconsiderate and turned the TV volume to the Max till 2 am!! I informed the reception but to no avail. I'm flying back home today, I will try to catch up on my sleep. Don't think I'm going back there again.

I recently spent 6 nights at the hotel on business. The rooms are much larger than the average European hotel. The AC is powerful and easily controlled. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom is also of good size with great shower pressure. I had some issues with the first room and the hotel took care of resolving it promptly. Service was excellent. No gym on the property, but they do offer free use of a nice nearby gym. Overall a very nice hotel.

Our family occupied 2 rooms for a week. We are Marriott rewards members and were offered no "extras" during our stay. We were asked if we wanted to upgrade but it would have been a lot of money considering the length of time we were staying and the fact that we were occupying 2 rooms. The Leeds Marriott, for instance, has offered the executive lounge for our stay when we stayed for a week's length. This hotel doesn't have an executive lounge so we weren't expecting that, but we thought that some gesture to acknowledge our loyalty to the Marriott brand would have been appropriate. If not upgrading one of our rooms, then maybe offering to give breakfast on the house one morning would have been nice. I don't know whose decision that would have been, but when we checked in, it was all business, cut and dry. We got only what we payed for. I'd expect that in other brands of hotels where I wasn't a rewards member. I can't blame the staff for the management style. The staff was courteous and helpful. We enjoyed the bar, the view overlooking the river, and the bar food was reasonably priced. The food was good and it was served promptly. We ate breakfast at the hotel twice and had mixed results. Possibly we ate there on a day they weren't busy, so the eggs in the chafing dishes weren't eaten and were left on low heat to get very over-done. The eggs that looked like they were originally poached were hard as rocks. Someone working in the restaurant wasn't watching. The next time we had better luck and the food was fine. Within a very short walking distance from the hotel, there is a convenience store to pick up something to eat, and there is also a Starbucks a short walking distance away to get something to eat and drink in the morning if you don't feel like eating a full breakfast or paying a lot of money for one. The hotel room itself was clean and comfortable. The conversion makes the hotel very atmospheric. The location of the hotel provides quiet in the evening. It was an easy walk from the hotel into the heart of the city. We used the adjacent municipal lot instead of the hotel's valet parking service.

We had stayed previously in this hotel a number of years ago when Christmas shopping in Manchester city centre and found the location to be excellent.
We went on a shopping trip with our young son and neither of us being a fan of spending hours in crowds and shops decided to break up the trip. The location of the hotel is excellent for the centre of Manchester, being in a quiet area for a restful night and a short walk to the shops.
The staff were very helpful and accomodating. There were several young families staying and no shortage of high chairs during meal times. The breakfast was of a high standard and set us up for our quick morning at the Arndale centre.
The charge for parking on site was £16 which for inner city hotels is par for the course but I still begrudge this regardless of which hotel we stay in.
The room was generally of a good standard, although the toilet wasn't as clean as it could have been and there was a little dust on the bedside cabinets.
The big let down was the restaurant for the evening meal. We decided to eat in the hotel for ease as we had a young child and hadn't booked anywhere in town. The staff were very helpful but weren't especially well organised and had a limited knowledge of the menu. The main courses were expensive and came only with the most basic veg (a mushroom, some rocket salad and half a tomato) so we had to order extra side dishes. We don't mind paying premium price for good food, but in this case it was very average in taste and quality. There is a children's menu with a number of options available and our son seemed to enjoy his meal. The restaurant wasn't especially busy but we got forgotten about when ordering a dessert for our son and so had it delivered to the room as he was getting tired. They did this at no extra cost and within a few minutes of us leaving the restaurant.
The service was excellent but perhaps more staff training is needed and the work in the kitchen needs a shake up.
We will probably stay here again if we visit Manchester but will not eat in the Restaurant for dinner.

A group of us stayed at the hotel & we were all impressed with the friendly and helpful staff. They seemed genuinely interested in trying to help and give the guests good service. The rooms were reasonably priced, very clean and good facilities. The beams in the hotel gave it character. The bar was nice, spacious and with character. The breakfast was well organised and plentiful & we enjoyed sitting looking out at the comings and goings along the canal.
We were able to sit outside in the sun on the hotel patio. There is parking for £8 in the car park next door or you can pay £16 for the hotel valet parking. It's 10 minutes walk to the shops through the new Spinningfields area with it's shops and wine bars. You can get a deck chair there if it's sunny enough! and very convenient for The Opera House - 6 minutes away. We asked for a quiet room on the high floor and we got exactly that. We will stay there again.
The lift does judder when you use it but we did get used to it!

Room Tip: You can ask for a quiet room, or if you would like a view of the canal you could ask for that. One s...
