“Brilliant hotel near Coronation St Tour”
Reviewed 28 May 2014

We decided to stay at this hotel because it was so close to the Coronation Street tour
It also offered a Coronation Street package which included parking so was ideal
Upon arrival we were offered a very warm welcome and swift check in
The hotel is lovely and situated next to a canal and is beautifully decorated throughout
Cannot fault the rooms they are lovely
We ate in the restaurant which was really nice and lots of variety
The menu can be expensive but we opted for the set menu so that was quite reasonable.
Breakfast is very expensive at £16.95 per person unless included in your room rate
So we didn't bother with this and drinks were expensive too.
Overall a brilliant hotel
Would definitely return

Room was comfortable and quite. The interior is nice and characteristic of the building, so not the standards building layout. Breakfast was good with quick service and friendly staff, although I had a standard order.

The bad was the air conditioning, which was very noisy, our also did not work well.
There was a charge for WiFi, which I find amazing in a hotel it should be standard. It is ridiculous to charge for WiFi in any hotel that is not selling our self as curing the cables. When I travel on business I need to connect, and when I travel with the family wet would have as mutiny without WiFi

Very nice hotel, lovely room and very friendly and helpful staff

Top tip - for free wifi select the Marriott Public network rather than the Guest network!!

Another top tip - don't pay over the odds for valet parking as there is a big surface NCP right next to the hotel which is £8 for 24 hours

Would definitely return

I have to set off by saying i like Marriott Hotels. I've stayed in lots over the years and have stayed in this particular one on a number of occasions. I'd have no hesitation in staying again, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to prospective guests.
Nice staff, nice room and good service.
However......
I cannot understand how a hotel of standing like The Marriott doesn't provide free wi-fi.
You can go in most cafes these days and have access to it.
You can even go in McDonalds and use it, so why not Marriott?
I would have thought these days it could be, or rather should be provided as a matter of course.
Yes you can pay a charge for an hour or a day etc, but that isn't really the point. We're in an age of technology and The Marriott is letting it's customers down by not providing what most people consider to be a basic requirment these days. (Without being charged for it).
Also, no fridge in the rooms, really, seriously?
I found this out when i stayed at another Marriott and asked about a fridge. I was told they no longer provide them as not a lot of people were using the mini bar.
Not a lot? So that means some people were, and that being the case i think again a hotel of The Marriotts reputation and standing should perhaps reconsider this decision.
You can stay in hotels of less quality and have a fridge in the room and again i think it's a basic requirment.
So Marriot this would have been a five star ***** review, it should have been a 5* review, but a couple of small issues have let you down.

A fantastic friendly hotel. From checking in to the restaurant staff everyone is very approachable and helpful. The rooms are recently refurbished to a nice standard and very clean and tidy. The bed you just sink into and they are so comfortable. I may even purchase some pillows from their online shopp!

The buffet breakfast has enough to pick from and is delicious, fresh tea and coffee is brought to your table too.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the River it is alot quieter

The staff on reception and the concierge were extremely pleasant. My room was large, well appointed and clean.
Dinner and breakfast were to a high standard.
The hotel is in easy walking distance of the main shopping areas.
I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Just make sure wi-fi is included in room cost.

The purpose of our stay was to attend a wedding in the city. I had requested to be allowed to check in earlier to change somewhere etc prior to the 4pm checkin time. We arrived and the lady receptionist immediately knew of my request and already had our room ready! She was extremely professional and efficient. We used the valet parking which is excellent and at £16 is cheaper than trains and taxis plus allows you to leave the car on check out day to go shopping and not worry about further carparking fees or struggling home in rain on public transport. The valet service was seamless and our belongings were transported to the room and the car secured. The room 218 was gorgeous with views over the river. The bed and pillows were sooooo comfortable and we slept so well. We had a drink in the bar which is a lovely relaxing area and the Polish barmaid was delightful and so friendly. We had breakfast served in the room for just £3 extra and it was lovely and to be recommended. Again the waitress was so friendly - the entire staff we had any dealings with were all friendly, efficient and nothing was too much trouble - they really did make a good hotel a brilliant hotel!! We have always used The Midland but we have to say we are now converts and our next stay over in manchester we will be at the v&a marriot.

Room Tip: Room overlooking the river.
