The Pendulum Hotel
Ranked #45 of 120 Hotels in Manchester
Reviewed 20 May 2012

An excellently positioned hotel five minutes from Piccadilly, especially if at the conference centre (attached) or the university (fifteen minutes walk). The centre is also about fifteen minutes walk.
The local nightlife is near too. Canal Street is a few minutes away, chinatown ten minutes and real ale enthusiasts can reach the Briton's Protectorate in ten minutes.
As my visit was work related (honest) I was in the cheapest room. It was not particularly spacious and the limited TV channels not conducive to stopping in the room at night. The shower/toilet area was very cramped.
The changing of the room is top notch and cudos to the domestic staff (if you still call them that). Tea, coffee, milk, iron, fan, soap/shower gel/shampoo are all provided.
Breakfast was expensive and had its ups and downs. The variety was good - cold meat, smoked fish, cereal, porridge, fruit, toast, full english, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, juices, croissants, pan au chololat, watermelon, melon, the list goes on and on. However, I wouldn't say the english was of a great quality as it is served over a number of hours. If buying your own breakfast, there are much better and cheaper local options for breakfast.
Manchester is getting pricey in the centre and this hotel reflects that, although it is one of the cheaper ones. So again, if on a budget look at the transport and maybe look further out of town. If determined to stop in the centre, you can certainly do worse though.

Hotel at the centre of things, parking a bit too pricey but just around the corner, great for a city centre travel by train weekend break, picadilly rail station 5 mins walk, china town restaurants 5 mins walks. Even on the night City won the Premier League noise not a problem, I guess if you want a noiseless weekend stay on a farm? Hotel staff very friendly and welcoming, rooms just what you would expect and public areas inviting. Thanks for a good weekend.

Stayed at this hotel recently also booked it at last minute. All staff were friendly and attentive and hotel is very clean throughout! Its a bit confusing to find as the biggest signs outside door are for Manchester Conference Centre, with a small Days Hotel sign....The reception area, business suite and lounges are nicely laid out and spacious. My only downfall was the room. I did read somewhere that they recently did a refurbishment, but they must have skipped room I was in! The fabric/material on curtains and bed cover were well faded and like early 90s, the bed was so soft you would need a ladder to get out of it! The windows do not open as all have security wire. There was a fan provided in room, but all this does id circulate the already hot air in the room! It just needs new refurbishment in rooms, but overall I was satisfied with this property

Thank you for your comments, we do have a small selection of rooms that are next to be refurbished, the majority of the hotel was completed, this will be the final stage. All feedback whether positive or negative is utilised to constantly strive for improvement. Thank you for taking the time to leave us your comments.

I have also noted the comment about The Days Hotel signage. I will address this dircetly.

Thanks again.

A lovely hotel. Very pleased with our room. Furnished to a high contemporary standard, very stylish. Very clean, nice shower. Staff very pleasant. Room compact but cleverly designed.
Our main disappointment was the meal in the restaurant. It was dire! Advertised as menu of the week, Italian week, the main course recommended to usby the waiter was Wood fired Chorizo and Mozzarella pizza. Served with chips. We checked if the pizza was prepared by the hotel and was assured it was.It was dreadful, a nasty stodgy pizza with some nasty bits of meat on it served with frozen chips on top, just awful! This pizza had never seen a wood fire and the only preparation by the hotel was to remove it from the freezer. This was not restaurant food!

Would recommend the hotel rooms but not the evening meal! Did not risk the breakfast so cannot comment.

Thank you for leaving us your feedback. I am glad you enjoyed your stay with us and apologise for the evening meal, as it would appear we did not meet the expected standard on this occassion. I have passed your feedback onto the Head Chef to rectifiy the issue in the future, without your comments we are unable to improve our standard of service therefore, I thank you for taking the time to advise us.

I do hope that you will visit us again soon and that on the next occassion we can ensure that you receive our normal standard of service in relation to the food provision.

Stayed here for a training course, sound proofing dreadful, noise from the students next door kept me up until 5am. Could hear the noise of the neighbours using the toilet. The extractor fan in the shower area was really noisy and went on for in excess of 15 mins after you switched off the light.

Staff member asked me about my stay and then had no interest in listening when I complained.

Was in Manchester for work and this hotel was close to where my meeting would be held. Got a very good deal on the room, which was very comfortable. Had a double room with a good bathroom and very comfortable bed. Had a quiet room on the top floor which was perfect. Will stay here if I come to Manchester again. And just to note the friendliness and professionalism of the reception staff.
