We booked for a double room at monroes as we needed to get away for the weekend and decided to go to manchester monroes was right across the road from piccadilly railway so we thought that it was and should be a very good idea. when we called they said they had no double rooms but would book us into a triple room for the price of a double we thought wow cant go wrong. we traveled 45 min by train to get there when we walked in it looked okay although they did drag us through the pub and then the kitchen and then to the room well where do i start. they seemed friendly enough and took us up to our room. when they opened the door to let us in we were in shock we were a couple hoping to spend a quiet weekend away together. our room didnt even have a double bed there were five single beds in a really large room so we couldnt even sleep together so we thought okay not a problem we will just push the beds together. All the duvets were old and smelt the only thing clean on the bed was the sheet well i hope it was clean. when we decided to go to bed thats when it really started first of all there was no double glazing so the traffic was really loud all night long there is a rave across the road that you can hear all night friday and saturday till six in the morning sirens allways going off and driving past we got about six hours sleep from friday till sunday we couldnt even get up for the breakfast as we were to tired the only thing i enjoyed was leaving i couldnt wait the only reason we stayed is because we paid cash up front and couldnt find a room any where else the only way you would get some sleep is to be really really drunk and would have to pass out otherwise you have no chance. Sorry it needs a good clean as well.

This place was pure and simple filth! On arrival there was no greeting, just a demand for the full amount in cash upfront. After travelling for 4 hours we didn't want to go back out searching for a cash point, so gave them half the bill in cash and were then haressed continuously for the remainder. The room was meant to be En-suit but was in fact IN suit...the shower was in the middle of the room...yet the controls for it were OUTSIDE the cubicle, meaning someone else had to operate and be able to watch you while you showered! The soap on our beds had teeth marks in, the curtains were brown with dirt, the towels were old flat and tattered, the amount of dust and dirt down the sides of the walls was what looked like 10 years worth, the wallpaper was hanging off so was pinned back with drawing pins! The toilet was in a seperate cold damp dirty bathroom, and everytime we went an old man was on loo with his trousers round his ankles and hadn't locked the door. We slept clothed as we didn't want to make contact with the dirty bed sheets. Quite honestly the worst hotel we ever stayed in, and found there was a premiere in in the centre of the town for the same price!

We would travel across regularly to watch United and any nights we need to stay over we would always book into Monroe's. For budget travellers, this place is ideal, £18 pppn with a very good breakfast in the morning is value for money. The hotel is right next door to the train station which is very handy. You may have a sink and shower in your room, or else you may have to share a bathroom with other rooms which is down the hall. The trams go by outside which can be a bit noisy if your at the front of the hotel but never bothers me. You get what you pay for, some people expect the Ritz for this type of money. If you want a hotel thats a wee bit more fancy then go and book yourself into another hotel and pay £50/£60 a night. The hotel is 5mins walking distance from the City Centre, and 10mins from the Arndale shopping centre and Printworks where all the nightclubs are. Theres 10 of us staying in Monroe's this weekend, we're all looking forward to it. I cant recommend this place enough to budget travellers who just want to rest their head for a night, shower, have a good breakfast and be close to more or less anything in the city centre.
