The location of this hotel is the main plus, it is totally central to everything Manchester has to offer and right next door to the cathedral, from the reception you can see the Manchester eye which is about 30m away, Selfridges is across the road around 20m away, and the Arndale centre around a 5min walk away. The rooms, although not 5*, are very clean and relatively well modernised, we had a lovely view over the cathedral gardens out of our window. the pub downstairs had a very good atmosphere and the food was very nice and very reasonably priced, and the staff couldn't do enough for you in both the hotel and pub.

From the moment my friend and i arrived at this hotel we found the staff all to be very polite and amiable. There was a flight of stairs to get up with our suitcases, and 3 diferent members of staff offered to carry them which was very kind and helpful.
I feel for what we paid the room was perfectly adequate. Plasma T.V. and mod cons, the bathroom needed a little work but everything was spotlessly clean.
1st class breakfast with lots of choice.
We stayed here for 1 evening after a trip to the opera house.
I would definitely stay again, and reccomend it for value, and location and frienliness of staff.

I stayed here during a visit to Manchester for a girls weekend. The accomodation was cheap and in a great location in the heart of the centre. A word of warning though - being right next to the cathedral the bells to chime early on a sunday morning! I cant comment on the food as we never made it up in time for breakfast! The staff were nice though and we got what we paid for.

As my mother would say, you get what you pay for. No telephone, iron, ironing board in rooms - the latter are available with a £20 deposit. Very basic accommodation situated and surrounded by bars which open until the early hours providing lots of noise if your room is situated above which mine was. My friends were on the church side so didn't get so much noise.

Friendly and comfortable. 1860s building with bags of character. Room was clean (tho I think there is a hole in the floor under the carpet in one spot!), extra towels kept arriving and tea-making tray generously supplied. Bathroom tiny and shower needed practice to get the best in terms of hot water, but I have paid more for worse in Paris! View from my room across pedestrianised area to cathedral was absolutely inspiring. The Mitre's bar and its neighbour both have pleasant outdoor seating areas, which means that there can be late-night noise in fine weather - but on the credit side there is no traffic. Breakfast plentiful and excellent. Staff welcoming, and also helpful beyond the call of duty now and then. Hotel is within an easy walk of practically anything you could want to do in Manchester. I spent an inexpensive and enjoyable week.

Room Tip: Not for people who have trouble with stairs!

Stayed last night for a Kylie Concert, Everything was perfect, we had a double room opposite the Cathedral, (The only down side, The Bells at 9.30 am) but if your not suffering a hang over no problem, infact we found it quite enchanting.
The Room was clean and very comfortable and the Staff at Breakfast very cheerful and helpful. Made you feel at home.
We would definately stay here again, No more Novotel and long walk for us, it really is just a 5 minute walk to the Manchester Arena.
