Well done Travelodge - returned lost property

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 18 Oct 2015
This is a clean but basic Travelodge in a safe but less than salubrious part of Manchester. The room was fine, clean & tidy. Nice to have a bath in a budget hotel for a change and shower was good, plenty of hot water. Kettle and TV all worked okay. I ate in the restaurant and it was all okay, nothing to complain about given the prices. Fast wifi worked well.

The highlight are the friendly and capable staff. I really felt for them - on the night I stayed two of them seemed to be doing all the checking in, bartending and even cooking and serving meals to a full bar. They did so cheerfully and happily and nothing seemed too much. They are a credit to Travelodge.

However, the most impressive part of this stay was that I forgot my electronic toothbrush and called the day afterwards. Within 20 minutes of getting through to the hotel (which wasn't easy) a very friendly man called me back to tell me he had located my toothbrush! Having left various chargers and stuff over the years in hotels, this is the first time something has been located. Within a a few days, it was posted back to my home address in London. I didn't even have to pay for postage!

Well done Travelodge. The hotel was basic but the staff and aftercare more than made up for it.

We spent two weeks at Sportcity in April 2014 and six nights in September/October 2015 and have no complaints. The room was large, and beds made daily, and supplies of tea, coffee, milk and sugar refilled each day. Big enough for two with an excellent en suite bathroom with shower. Clean towels replaced daily. Travelodge had refurbished the rooms and the new king size mattresses give an excellent nights sleep. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and give that extra bit of service much appreciated on a short break holiday. There was a car park outside our window but we never once heard a car arrive or leave, even though there were at least seven cars there each night. Probably due to double glazing. If we had to find a fault perhaps a few more plugs for bedside clock or a longer dressing table area, but that is not really a problem. We will definitely go again, as we find it easy to reach by bus from Central Manchester, every five minutes, not having a car.

Room tip: Cheaper than Central Manchester but only 10 minutes away by bus. Good value for money

Firstly the positives. The staff were lovely. Bar open late and breakfast not too bad. The rooms, bathrooms, corridors, awful. Smelt of cigarettes. , old carpets, bathrooms dirty floors and so cross when I realised it was a good 40 minute.- 2 mile walk from Ethiad campus. . Very disappointing. Blood on duvet.

You know what you're getting when you book a travelodge. Room was decent, confy bed and suitable bathroom. Staff were friendly and bar was open late enough. Location is good for city stadium but a fair drive to United or trafford center. The only down sids is the smell in the corridor but it dosnt travel into the rooms

Once again a stay at a Travelodge is spoilt by the poor state of hygiene of the bathroom. On my recent visit, I had to ask for another room as the bathroom smelt of stale, acrid urine/sweat. I complained and was given another room which had a similar but less offensive smell in the bathroom. On closure inspection, I noticed the shower curtain to be dirty, with an offensive odour. I complained and a new, clean curtain was installed with the result that the bathroom was now odour-free and just as it should be. Either short cuts are being made by key chamber-maid personnel or there isn't enough staff employed to do the work.

Hotel is certainly on the old side in terms of the brand however it's good value for money and often the cheapest option inside Manchester at rooms approx 36 pounds a night.

There is chargeable car parking at 3 pounds and it's a ten min drive into the City Centre.

The staff are great and I actually thought the breakfast was much better than in other hotels I have stayed at really very nice indeed.

Rooms large and quiet and clean.

Hotel does have slightly odd smell- what is it?!

Would stay again, it's a good option if in a car and looking for basic accommodation. ththcheapest option
