“great room, great location, but the breakfast.....”
Reviewed 2 February 2012

We stayed two nights at the Holiday Inn Express Manchester Centre.
The room was very good, great size, comfortable, very good bathroom, as the hotel is quite new everything was in great shape.
The location is very good too, within a walking distance of most of Manchester attractions, with nice bars, restaurants and shops just around the corner.
The only problem was the breakfast, it is totally a British breakfast, but the way the space is organised creates a huge line, and one of the days we had to wait around 20 minutes....
Apart from this detail everything was great!

I was delighted to read that you had enjoyed your stay at our hotel!

It is ideally located for everything the fantastic city of Manchester has to offer espcially the bars and restaurants in the Northern Quarter

Our free hot breakfast is an area that we are continually trying to improve, as you noted the area is quite limited if we have a high occupancy however we have listened to our guests and are in the process of redesigning the area to make it more efficient & create better space

We hope to welcome you back soon

We visited the above hotel on 31st January for one night, as we were going to a show at the MEN arena. The twin room was clean and very comfortable and it was nice to have a large shower cubicle and not just a shower over a bath. The buffet breakfast was good with plenty of choice, although the servery area was cramped when many of the guests arrived at the same time.

We were looking for a reasonably priced hotel in Manchester, and booked this one (unknowingly- off of Hotwire-- it was listed as a 3 star--got a great deal this way-- 44 pounds/night).

I was expecting a very modest hotel, but was pleasantly surprised.
Everything was very modern and fresh and chic.
The shower was amazing actually, and the room was very clean.

Staff were very nice and gave me some good take away menus one night to order in, and extra towels were no problem to get.

Breakfast was included. We were expecting continental- but were surprised to find hot scrambled eggs, sausages and beans too.
Food was great but there was a line to the buffet when we slept in until 9:30 one morning.
(no line our other morning at 7:30!)

Also pleasantly surprised with the location-- although a little tricky to find, it was much closer to picadilly than expected-- 10 minute walk.

Would definitely stay here again.

Thank You for your great feedback on the team and hotel, I am pleased that we were able to help you with dining options in the evening and that you found the location was close to Piccadilly

Breakfast can get busy and you are right to say the later it gets the busier it gets so we do expect some short delays...maybe our comfy beds mean people sleep in a little longer!

I will pass your comments onto the team and hope to welcome you back soon

This hotel is located very close to the Print Works and the Arndale centre. It is however not the easiest hotel to find. The postcode on the website took us almost 1/2 mile out of the way. If you are using a sat nave I suggest you input the street name not the postcode.

The rooms are as you woud expect from this hotel chain. Our room was on floor 7 I would think some of the lower floors may exerience some noise but it's set back from the main road so should not be too bad.

The complementark breakfast is OK but the way it is set out means there are long queues to get served.

Thank You for your feedback and 4 out of 5 review

I am sorry to hear you had difficulty finding us; we are a brand new hotel on a new street and have been looking at ways to make it easier for our guesst to reach us using a Sat Nav system

As it is a new street it sometimes doesn’t have our listing so we have put lots of options on our website including a find us feature which will direct you straight from your home to us

We hope this helps next time you visit

Not the easiest of hotels to find, but our sat-nav might need to be updated, could see the hotel but the sign at side of the road said no entry! Room was clean and cosy, the bathroom was amazing with its blue lights and power shower. Good location for the shops and MEN Arena. Reception helped us with the best place for parking, the euro car park which is a 2 minute walk away. Breakfast was good! You must try the hot chocolate. Would stay again, but the man standing at reception could be more welcoming.

Thank you for your great comments on the hotel and I agree the funky lighting in the bathroom definitely adds a modern edge

I have taken note of your feedback on the team member, we want to show consistently good service to all our guests and to be welcoming is something that is important to us so I apologise if this was not the case on your visit, and I hope this doesn’t deter you from visiting us again soon

Extremely hard to find due to location on a one way system and hotel being tucked behind other buildings and the car park recommended is not close to the hotel and needs to be paid for by cash only. Excellent city centre location, rooms small but modern and clean with good facilities - bathroom awesome and liked the range of pillows offered. Breakfast was HORRENDOUS. Both me and my partner did not even attempt to eat as the option of sausage or fried egg looked disgusting and that was about your only option apart from toast and did not want to wait in the queue for the coffee machine. Late check out request given which was a nice touch. Would stay again but eat breakfast elsewhere.

Thank you for your feedback on the hotel and I am pleased you found the hotel well located for your visit

I am disappointed that breakfast was not to a good standard however I do note you stayed with us in November, since then we have made good progress in improving the quality of the breakfast items and although our free breakfast is only continental and has 3 hot items we hope our guest will find it plentiful

I hope that this will not prevent you from staying in the future and we hope to welcome you back soon

4 of us stayed here when we did an overnighter. We were arriving by train and knowing how close the M.E.N. is to the railway station, we picked this hotel. It was actually a ten minute walk from Victoria Station. My own suggestion would be to market it as the Northern Quarter! The staff were very courteous and friendly. One of our party has a fear of heights - when we booked in we were given rooms on the 7th and 8th floor. When we queried a lower floor for 2 of our party, the desk staff made every effort to find us a room. Unfortunately they were not successful but they really did try to sort the situation.
The rooms are clean, stylish and comfortable. City centre hotel rooms are often cramped but I felt that these were of a good size to share. The decor throughout the hotel is very nice and contemporary. My only gripe is the set-up for breakfast (which is included - another bonus). The food is laid out in an alcove. There are trays but nowhere in this area to set them down to put your food and drink on, which resulted in a real juggling act. Consequently, there resulted in a queue of visitors backing up, which was reminiscent of a school dinner line! That is the only issue that I can see that really does flagging up. Great hotel - worth a visit.

I was really pleased to hear that you and your party enjoyed your stay with us and I will pass your postive comments onto the team

We are situated a 10 minute walk from the arena and our location in the city centre means that you are never more than 10 minutes’ walk from any of the attractions Manchester has to offer, because we are situated in the Northern Quarter this means our guests get the best of both worlds ...Walking distance to bars, shops, restaurants and the MEN but in a quiet area so they can enjoy a restful night’s sleep

We are looking at solutions for the breakfast area after listening to guest feedback and I hope that when you visit us again that you will notice a difference
