Andrew, our guide, is a retired history professor with exceptionally strong knowledge of Manchester and a passion for history. We learned so much more than we would have had we walked around on our own. The walk was customized for our interests (and took place in the evening after work) and was very well designed and paced. Andrew patiently and articulately answered our questions (and he knew all the answers) and we engaged in interesting conversation throughout our walk. In just over two hours, we walked by and heard stories about the Football museum, town hall, Albert Square, the Rylands Library, the Midland Hotel where Rolls met Royce, Free Trade Hall, Royal Exchange Hall, Manchester Cathedral and the Arena (where the terrorist bombing took place), Chinatown and the streets of traditional cotton warehouses, the site of the original Roman fort. We then took a tram to Media City and walked around the ship canal area, before walking to Old Trafford and then taking the tram back to the city centre.

This was a terrific walk and is strongly recommended to anyone who wants to understand more about Manchester and the surrounding areas.

We met at St. Peter's Square outside Central Library at 11 am. The cost of the walk is £8 but is worth doing to uncover the heritage and history behind some of the iconic buildings in the city area. Denise, our knowledgeable guide took us for two hours on this interesting walk and after the walk we retraced our steps revisiting the buildings which stirred our interest the most.

It was a phantastic morning going round with Kate along the channels and around downtown. She was fun, sportive and just made my morning!! Taking a bike allows you to go round the northern quarter seeing some street art, downtown and channels so it is the most complete tour :)
Thanks Kate!!!

We walked and listened to John Alker on Saturday 2 September as part of a short trip to Manchester. Do not miss this experience, you will learn more in 1.5 hours than you could ever discover for yourselves. John is clearly knowledgeable but it is always the delivery of the information which impresses me - and he gets a 10/10 from me for that.
Thank you John, it made me want to return to Manchester soon!
