“Overpriced”
Reviewed 28 September 2009

The pictures given on the hotels website are certainly accurate and it manages to be chic but still very warm in its decor. We went for the room with the bath which was extremely relaxing.
The bar doesnt do any cocktails and the service is a little hit and miss. the couple waiting before me ordered a gin and lime tonic - received a gin and wine tonic. The hotel has taken the opportunity to charge for everything it can think of - WIFI is extra, the spa is overpriced, the breakfast is hit and miss my partner ordered the full vegetarian which was vast and delicious but i ordered the pancakes which were small, dry, hard and the same price. You'll get much better food at any of the pubs/cafes in didsbury or withington (the mdidsbury, the metropoliton, fuel, gem&i )
Parking at least is included in the price.
I think if you get a decent late deal and you want to stay way out in east didsbury (ie a good 15minute drive from the centre) this hotel is a good choice, but if you're paying the full price Id probably look at abode in the centre for something similar.

I have stayed in Didsbury House and Number 11 many times for work, but only just put pen to paper. This is probably my favourite hotel I use for work in the UK. The staff are very friendly, the rooms boutique in style. If you are lucky you could end up in one of their suites, which are amazing. Nice to sit outside in summer with a drink. Lots of very good restaurants in Didsbury - 10 to 15 minute walk. The hotel will always book a restaurant for you and make a suggestion of where to eat. Excellent breakfasts - you may have to wait a few minutes for a cooked breakfast, as it's done to order!

But Didsbury Park is such a cool hotel, very stylish. We had booked a duplex room but were allocated room 50, one of the loft suites. The rooms were amazing, a very comfortable lounge, the bedroom had a kingsize bed with the most comfortable mattress ever and a bathroom to die for with 2 baths so you can bathe alongside your friend - in my case my gorgeous husband. you won't want to leave this room. Don't miss out on the breakfast - it's fantastic, heaps of choice, loads of fresh fruit as well cooked options. There's a good veggie choice too - eggs benedict without the parma ham or veggie full english.
We have stayed at Eleven Didsbury Park (sister hotel just up the road) a couple of times before and loved that too - the only reason we stayed at Didsbury House was because Eleven Didsbury was full.
We stayed on the hottest night of the year so far. There is no air-con but there was a fan but could maybe have done with another one for the bathroom as the windows don't open too far.
Having said that we had a wonderful stay. What makes both this and Eleven Disbury Park very special are the staff, friendly & helpful and the general atmosphere of calm and tranquility.

We stayed in an Eclectic Suite room for 2 nights, arriving late on our first night after the wedding, and then leaving early in the morning after the second night to leave for the airport. On our arrival night though as our car pulled into the carpark outside the hotel building was all lit up and surrounded by trees and looked very romantic. Created a great first impression before we were even inside the door!

Unfortunately we accidentally deleted our photos from this stay (yeah we're absolutely gutted!) but I will say that the photos on the Didsbury House Hotel website are spot on accurate and match the experience we had staying there. The manager went out of his way to place additional items requested in our room such as a selection of fruits, a couple of bottles of sparkling schloer, a large scented candle and some aromatherapy bath stuff, rose petals on the bed and in the bath, chocolates etc..! We were able to borrow (without paying) DVD's from the reception counter to watch in our room on a large LCD television.

We had a fantastic large wet-room style bathroom with a walk in shower area. The towels were warm soft fluffy and large in size, the bath had ample space for two of us at the same time and was literally the roll-top bath you see in front of the window on their photos. When we opened the door to our room it was so spacious, clean, well designed and impressively of good taste that I complete forgot to carry my wife over the threshold LOL.

Breakfast was delicious both mornings, we ate out for the sunday evening at a local pub/restaurant walking distance from the hotel that serves really nice food and is a really nice warm environment. There's a lovely public park/landscaped gardens almost just over the road that you can walk through/around during the day for free if you want some fresh air.

It took us a while to find the do-not-disturb sign hiding in the wardrobe but that may be down to the fact that neither of us had stayed in a hotel together before getting married so wouldn't have known to look there instinctively. Fantastic place to stay for your wedding night - I totally recommend this suite for the king size bed, double-ended roll top bath and walk in shower. Apparently there's also a gym somewhere downstairs but we weren't really looking for a gym on this visit. This is probably one of the nicest places to stay near Manchester Airport (only 15 mins away in a taxi for about £10), the hotel arranged the 5:30am taxi for us too!

Bit disappointing all round. Interesting decor in parts and a warm atmosphere. However the hotel was quite tired in parts, ie carpets worn, could have done with lick of paint and decor bland in areas. Bar lacked ambience. Lounge was enjoyable and relaxing. Our "suite" although was large was over priced, cold shower, poor lighting and not very luxurious all round to be honest. Service was very average. Employers didn't quite seem to be on the ball and it seemed under staffed even though the hotel wasn't fully booked. Odd location too as near a main road - and no immediate buzzing area on your door stop.

  • Liked — decor in lounge
  • Disliked — service and inexperience of staff

I booked this hotel on advice of this website - again, not disappointed.

We stayed 2 nights and felt we got very good value on a special weekend deal booked on the hotel's website. This is a beautiful hotel with lovely reception rooms and a friendly professional staff . There was a good selection of tasty food for breakfast. The bedroom was warm, comfortable and very tastefully decorated. The bathroom was very clean and stylish.

The only thing I would suggest is that they invest in 'do not disturb' signs because the cleaner came into our room at 9am both mornings when we were still asleep. I'm on my holidays and want a lie-in !

Otherwise, a great stay and I would return to and recommend this hotel.

  • Liked — beautiful decor
  • Disliked — cleaner coming into the room at 9am both mornings.

Stayed for one night on a recent trip to Manchester the Hotel is great, really clean, execellent decor, and the breakfast was lovely, Didsbury itself has a couple of good restaurants and pubs so is a great place to stay if you don;t want the husstle and busstle of a city centre.
