Britannia Airport Hotel

The only good thing about this hotel is the comfortable location in the vicinity of the Manchester Airport.
We stayed only for one night having to catch the flight the following morning, but will not be staying again!
Staff was very rude, ignorant, and lacked any basic service industry manners and standards.
The hotel claims to be a 3 star hotel on the website where I booked. It hardly reaches any stars. The carpets and walls in the corridors were dirty! The corridors smelled ridiculously. The room and the bathroom was just so old, outdated and dirty, that we decided not to have a shower and worried to touch anything or sleep in that bed! Very disappointing. The pictures on the website are plain false advertising and mislead customers, as the rooms do not look anything like that!

Given the reviews on this forum, we were expecting a real tip. But our room was clean and tidy, everything worked, the missing bath mat was provided at once... Food was good, hot, and plenty of it - service for Christmas meal was excellent! Yes, it's a two-star hotel and looks it, but we were quite satisfied overall.

This review is what I have shared with Dominic Littlewood...

I booked a night at the Britannia Hotel Palatine Rd Manchester for 25th Oct 2013 through Booking.com in early October
and in special requests said 'late arrival flying up from London late'.

Britannia took the money ( £38) on 10th Otober 2013 in ADVANCE

I got to hotel 25th October 2013 - 23.45 no room and no booking they claimed

No help ..very bad attitude by 'Pavan' on reception and at 00.20 he said 'look it's your problem NOT mine' ....

I pointed out I had suffered a stroke the previous December (Dec 14th) and did not want to spend night on the airport floor ...again he said same 'look it's your problem NOT mine' ..

I left and only got a bed thanks to the kindness of RaddisonBlu who sorted me a room out for £92...

Booking.com refunded the £92 but Britannia will not do anything, deny it all and have said they will have no further
communication about the matter.

If nothing else I hope you can warn people they may have there money taken in advance then denied a room - could that be theft if the money is not refunded ??

The overall experience was okay but nothing to right home about. Checking in took ages and then when I went to the room I thought I had checked in to Prisoner Cell Block H. The corridors looked like something out of a prison, although once in the room, this was fine. I felt the bar area needed a little TLC and so did the dining room.

We have stayed at this hotel on a number of occasions over the past few years and have not had too many problems. However, we stayed for two nights last weekend and we were not impressed! The hotel is not cheap and we expected a much higher standard of care and attention.

The room had stains on the walls and carpets which had obviously been there for a long time. The television was ancient and there was no remote control. When the shower was used the bathroom was left partly under water. The furniture was really rickety and the curtains were dirty.

When my husband asked for a different room, we were offered the room next door to the first room. This room was even worse, with black mould all over the bathroom - even the cleaner said she would not stay in it.

When my husband asked about the remote control he was told that we would have to wait for the "maintenance department" in the morning!! (What maintenance department?). The next day we were assured that there would be a remote control in our room but it did not materialise.

On the plus side - the food was very good and reasonably priced.

Despite all the bad reviews, we had a one night stay here and we stayed in room 407. From start to finish it was excellent, easy check in with friendly receptionist (Shaun)

When we got to our room we found it clean, warm and lovely fresh towels. The shower was fantastic and lovely hot water. The beds were lovely and comfortable (best night sleep I've ever had in a hotel).

Lots of different choice at breakfast, 3 different types of fruit juice, And a choice of continental of a full breakfast, food was lovely, fresh and very hot.

Bar staff were very friends and happy hour between 5pm & 8pm during the week on selected drinks which was fantastic, even when not on happy hour the drinks where reasonably priced.

They offer a secure car park, which you can leave your car in while you are on holiday and you know that it is safe and secure.

This hotel offered everything that you could ask for and more.

Excellent value for money.

Stayed here for just one night and it cost us £9 each way for a taxi There are a lot of other hotels just at the airport that you could walk to The reception staff were excellent on check in The room was small but adequate The heating didn't work but maintenance came within ten minutes to fix it We went for something to eat at the bar and again the barman was welcoming and efficient The food was good Went to bed and felt something under the sheet Got up to check and there were pieces of potato chips big enough that you couldn't miss them under the sheet obviously left since the last resident Went for breakfast the following morning which was supposed to start at seven We had a taxi booked for seven thirty and we weren't left into the restaurant until seven fifteen The hot food didn't come out until seven twenty five Would not stay here again
