“A lovely stay”
Reviewed 11 February 2014 via mobile

I stayed here for a birthday treat, we received complimentary afternoon tea as part of our stay, enjoyed some time in the spa and lobster for dinner in the Alto restaurant. Lovely room with very comfortable bed, we didn't want to leave! Thanks

Stayed on a Saturday night. Room fine but didn't feel like other five star hotels I have stayed in. There was no fresh milk in the room and no hot chocolate; both commonly found in lesser hotels. The bar also didn't live up to expectations - it was the same as any other busy, loud unappealing city centre bar. The night we were there it was so packed with drunk Liverpudlians that we had to take our drinks and sit in the foyer. There were so many people who had clearly had too much to drink ambling about it was really quite threatening, all being ignored by the numerous bouncers wandering about - also quite intimidating. Once the bar thinned out we sat at the bar. Service was poor - it was hard to get served and twice the barman couldn't give us a whiskey and ginger ale without getting it wrong. Hardly complex. To make things worse, 10% is automatically added to your bill for "service"! While we were there, nobody at all received table service; you had to go to the bar as you would in a pub. Not 5 star at all...

As we were having a rare night away without our two small children we were looking forward to a lie in. This was scuppered when the alarm clock (untouched by us) went off at 6.20am. Infuriating.

The 10% service charge was taken off our bill when we checked out and our mini bar bill was written off for the alarm clock (a can of Coke and some Pringles - thanks SO much...) but overall the experience was not what I would expect from a 5 star hotel at all. I think there must be a minimum set of criteria an hotel must achieve to be given it's star rating and I can only think the Radisson does the absolute bare minimum possible to qualify. There are better hotels in Manchester - use those...

Dear Reviewer
Thank you for your interesting review, we of course realise that it is a very subjective world that we operate in, so we are sorry that you did not enjoy your stay at our award winning hotel.
So as not to mislead other readers, as the leading hotel in the City, I would like to clarify that we have recently been re-accredited with the five stars Gold Award by the independent accreditation bodies.
We also have just been voted Manchester Hotel of the year for the 4th time in ten years.

There isnt one staff in particular that made a positive impact. It was ALL staff that dealt with me. I know some of the staff and even then they were absolutley brilliant and professional. I love the raddison its my favourite hotel. And the spa is by far the best in manchester. I wont go to any other. The decor in the lobby wasnt to my taste. But everyone is different still dosnt effect the quality and proffesionalism of the place. I ordered room service (burger and chips) and it was by far the most tastiest meal i have ever had. I would come back for that alone! Thank you for a lovely stay and you most defiantley will be seeing me again :)

Always risky going back somewhere that has been perfect before but we were not disappointed!
Service was excellent as was the food. We opted for the gentlemans lunch which is a lovely alternative to the ladies, it comes with a mini yorkshire with beef, pork pie and mini fish and chips along with sandwiches and scones.
Lovely afernoon thank you

Great Hotel very clean and a great location. The staff were helpfull and there was a free internet service. The breakfast had a good variety the room was very spacious and clean
The only downside was the non existant car parking had to pay at a local NCP Car park £36 for 2 nights. The Opus room was very dark for afternoon tea, the tea was overpriced at £18 Each + some tasteless snacks made the experience very dissapointing..

Room Tip: Ask for a view over the city facing The Town Hall

Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback. Due to our city centre location we don't have our own car park and recommend the NCP as the nearest and most convenient. I am sorry you were disappointed with our Afternoon Tea, particularly as this has proved most popular.

Room was clean, fresh and comfortable though there was a little noise from other guests. Service from the front desk staff and the Opus One restaurant staff was attentive and friendly. Intended to dine at the steak and lobster as the front desk staff had said that I didn't need to book but was told by the rather stressed young lady at the steak and lobster to go away and come back an hour later as they were full, so I tried the Opus One. Enjoyable meal of ribeye with oxtail - the latter was absolutely divine but the ribeye was cooked very rare rather than the medium rare I ordered but It was ok nonetheless. Was a bit disappointed with the dessert menu to be honest - wanted something small and light after the richness of the oxtail - I had a pannacotta, creme brûlée or mousse in mind but there was nothing along those lines so I passed. Will stay again and hopefully have time to try out the pool.
