“great hotel”
Reviewed 4 August 2014

Nice, clean relaxed hotel. friendly staff. good location. Afternoon tea was nice. Great burger from room service. Breakfast was excellent with the best sausages I have had from a breakfast buffet. only used the pool in the spa and it was clean. comfy beds and nice big tv. The mini bar is interactive so if you take something out it is charged automatically. overall great hotel would stay again. I would say its a very good 4 star if you are used to 5 star its probably not formal enough for you.

Room was exceptionally clean and very well equipped - even the standard rooms. Staff all friendly and helpful. Close to tram station and shops. Enjoyed it so much heading off there today for another short break.

Room was shabby fittings in bathroom needed refurbishing.
Crockery in room was grubby!
Beds were really uncomfortable.
We had blackout curtain but it let light in through the frame and we could hear doors banging all night
Breakfast was good yet waiting and overcrowded restaurant spoiled it, we had paid for breakfast but were inquisitioned at reception and in the restaurant re wether we had!
We visit Manchester regularly and will not be staying here deal or not.

I am sorry that you were disappointed with your recent stay. So as not to mislead other readers, all our mattresses have recently been replaced and new blinds fitted. I was concerned to read that you would not choose to return and would have welcomed the opptrunity to disccus your findings in person while you were here.

Stayed here with my husband for one night, the service is brilliant within the lobby, the bar and the spa! The decor is very nice, there is a lift that services the spa so you can get changed in your room without having to walk through the lobby in your dressing gown and there are also ice machines on each of the floors which is good in this hot weather.
The only areas that disappointed were the beds - the mattresses were far too firm (they were actually quite hard) and the shower - although it is a wet room there is enough space in the bathrooms to avoid the whole bathroom being soaked which happens with the current showers.
Having said that I would recommend this hotel as the service is brilliant!

I booked a Deluxe City View room for one night on business and free WiFi was included. The check-in was very slow and took about 10 minutes as there was only one person on Reception. My room was on the 12th floor so there was a good view – but the view was not of the city.

The room was modern, clean and very comfortable. The spa was very disappointing as the Sauna had no coals and no moisture and appeared to have an Infrared heater behind the seats, so it was a very dry heat and uncomfortably hot. The steam room was really nice but the Jacuzzi had far too much chlorine so it was not possible to stay in it for more than a couple of minutes. I alerted the staff before I left the spa and they claimed they'd recently checked the chlorine levels, but I was subsequently ill after I left the spa.

The drinks I ordered in the Opus One bar had 10% added to the bill and the glass of wine I had with my meal also had 10% added to the bill. The food menu made it clear that a 10% optional service charge would be added, which I was happy to pay, but this was not clear for the drinks (which were already very expensive) so I subsequently asked the hotel to remove the extra charges for the drinks.

At breakfast I was quoted a price of £18.95 for a full breakfast but again the hotel added 10% when the bill arrived so I asked for this to be removed as this extra charge had not been quoted for and I also felt £18.95 was particularly expensive for the limited range of cooked food that was available.

Thank you for this feedback. I would like to confirm that the service charge is optional and will be romoved on request. I am sorry you were disappointed with breakfast as we do offer a full a la carte option as well as the buffet service.

We stayed here for a couple of nights whilst attending a trade show, our room was superb, lovely and modern it was like a mini apartment! Breakfast was not included in our room rate, so we paid as we went and it was very nice, with lots to choose from both full english and continental options. Nice central location with plenty going on. Definately stay again when visiting Manchester in the future.
